There was an article on useless information in the paper today and it said it was still legal to sue the Welsh with a crossbow (I really didn't know that) but it also said it was legal to do the same to a Scot in York after midnight so long as it was inside the city walls. This should really go on the thread about weird coicidences having just talked about it this week and there it is in the paper.

operation Lizzy - stage 2 - London to Chester
1. Depart London on Saturday 11:18. Arrive Nuneaton 12:25
2. Meet Pete in Nuneaton at 12:26
3. 13:17 Lunch
3. Board the 14:40 boat on Ashby canal in Leicestershire countryside.
4. Alight from boat at 15:20.
5. 16:00 partake of cream tea
6. 17:30 Liz (Pete's wife) arrives in Nuneaton from Bath (the place, that is)
7. 18:00 Lizzy, Liz and Pete depart for Matlock, stopping somewhere quaint and english for a meal (not Little Chef!)
8. 20:30 arrive Matlock before sun-set
9. Sunday 08:23 (or later for those wanting a lie-in or earlier for those who wish to jog to the moors and back) a hearty breakfast of porridge or dry toast or both.
10. when we're ready.... set off for Chester which will take over 2 hours, going via Chatsworth House (Pete's other home
)..so hope to be there mid-dayish or thereabouts .
Sorry Linda.. I can't see how we would fit Gloucester in

Yes Pete, I can quite see how Nuneaton to Matlock via Gloucester might be just a tad out of your way
Never mind, we shall see Elizabeth on Hydra, and she will just have to come back again next year to see the junior contingent.
I'm so glad you're going to get a ride on a canal boat, Lizzie. I'm sure you will enjoy it. We were on the Ashby canal as part of our summer holiday last year, and it was lovely and peaceful.

Geez-oh-Pete, Pete ~ You really hop to it when put upon request, don't you? Ask for logistics, and get a laser-tuned itinerary. Bravo. It all sounds splendid!!! I cannot, I mean cannot, believe that within two weeks, I will be fulfilling a lifelong dream of traveling to England.....and, now, in the best possible fashion, as well. Not just as a tourist, but as a friend, with my hosts sharing their beloved country. There's no other way I would prefer. Linmag ~ great that the canal ride is recommended by you. I remember the natural environments you enjoy.
Then, on to Athens and Hydra, the latter a dream of recent years, and no less consequential than England ~ for a variety of other reasons, which also include friends, known and unknown.
Well, time to get to bed, so I can continue working to make my arrivals and stays possible .

On the subject of weird laws, Florida has some pretty strange ones......
Florida:
1. Women may be fined for falling asleep under a hair dryer, as can the
salon owner.
2. A special law prohibits unmarried women from parachuting on Sunday
or she shall risk arrest, fine, and/or jailing.
3. If an elephant is left tied to a parking meter, the parking fee has
to be paid just as it would for a vehicle.
4. It is illegal to sing in a public place while attired in
a swimsuit.
5. Men may not be seen publicly in any kind of strapless gown.

Just saw this, Rob. Noticed the ones you left out .
I lived on Big Pine from 1982-89. Was there no better legal term for usage in this law

I gave my hand-raised chicken [acquired in a median in Tennessee whilst traveling with the Renaissance Faire] to a man I knew living in Key West. She was doing fine for months, given my several visitations; however, prior to his visit, the off-site landlord's Doberman was apparently never given notice.
We obviously don't have enough to do here in Florida .

It is illegal to molest a Key deer. If caught one will be fined or will have to go to jail.

Chickens are considered a 'protected species'.

Does that photo ever bring back good memories ! Do you see your book well-represented, Andrew [my right hand]? Rob hadn't 'agreed' to smile for his photo just yet on this one. [Tee-Hee] just seeing Paula's photo [bracing herself, grinning and bearing it, against the camera ~ as she avoids eye contact with it] makes me ready to laugh ~ hard telling what came out of her mouth the next moment . That's a great photo of you, John and Margaret, both . And, Pete, my trusty friend, in the background physically but not any other way.
Yes, Sandra, it really is beautiful. The colours are true ~ and the only thing missing that really sets off her beautiful lawn [that you can comfortably sit on, so unlike here] is their pure white cat.
Fortunately, for Margaret and John, the gnomes aren't permanent fixtures.
