The Guardian link is also accumulating a LOT of comments some of which are worth reading.
My favourite so far, from someone with screen name 'whitworthflange'
This one sounds pretty good in parts too. His voice is dark like chocolate, and mature and slightly bitter like an old cheese. But some of the songs seem a bit cheesey too really....

I love this album..
BTW, link it works great in Argentina, too.
Croosing fingers He can make a few concerts... I never saw Him live... I make my choice: I'll travel anywhere this time...

I am almost speechless...
The production on this album is so bad it hurts..
And Leonard even ruined one of the most beautiful songs he has ever written: Born in Chains
The album is actually so bad and my disappointment so huge that I might not even buy the album...
Even "Death of a Ladies' Man" is better...
I hope someone will tell Leonard to shelve the recordings he already did with Patrick Leonard for the next album....
and hire Sharon Robinson and/or Roscoe Beck as producers and record the songs with the Unified Heart Touring Band..

A reminder of an alternative live version of Born in Chains.
Leonard Cohen and the UHTC
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8f37lh9LqRs
kind of makes you think if h'ed got the full live band in , including Sharon and the webb sisters and basically played these songs ' live' we would very likely have a true masterpiece as opposed to a flawed semi masterpiece!

He was at his peak during the 2010 European leg of his tour.....
Honestly, Leonard should be forced to listen to this beautiful live rendition of "Born in chains" - and then to the album version for 24 hours in a row....
to hear what he has done...

nah ok - let me say I've listened to this four and a half times tonight. I like the production - I like the arrangements - I like the swooping alt country thing going on in places - I like the choir like arrangements of some of the vocals (is it the Webbs again? I'm sure it is - if not they are good) - and I like the cocktail jazz lounge feel of the record or download or stream or whatever it is that's coming out the old gramophone right now - and the lyrics are almost poetry

real good writing again.
best record since Death of a Ladies Man - There's a coupla tracks I don't like - I don't like Samson and I don't like Chains but now that you've mentioned it Chris I'll try again and hone in on why it shoulda been good.
I don't understand where the production is lacking - its thick and muddy and good.
Good stuff x
Ah you just added on while I was typing Chris - thanks for that link CA - I'll check it out.

The accompanying article is just sad … Be glad if you aren't able to read German.
If you feel adventurous, here's a rough translation of the most annoying paragraph:
„The man's got the blues, although he is a folkie. At the age of 13, the Canadian learned the first chords, then he wandered around as a street singer in Montreal and as a hippie on the Greek island of Hydra. When Leonard Cohen said goodbye to a former holiday acquaintance, he sang for her, 'So Long, Marianne' - and had his first international hit in his bag. It can be as simple as that, when one gets kissed by the muse.“
