poets' identities revealed?
Greetings Teratogen,
One and the same dear boy, one and the same.
Out of curiosity, why on earth would you dismiss what teachers have said about your writings and give a damn what anonymous people on a forum care beyond a passing comment?
Unless they are willing to post their credentials they are no different than you and me, struggling along with our shabby human limitations (or something like that, I've forgotten LC's exact words).
They can strike all the poses they want (and our boy Critic2 has struck many) but they are still left with the written word. And our boy's written word is nothing to write home about. Not bad, mind you, proper form, well placed words, all the right moves, but no substance. It's kind of what Muzak is to music.

hahahaha. i guess you're right. but to answer your question, i never thought of it as listening to what some joe schmo says rather than a teacher. i think i had just been waiting and expecting for some kind of harsher criticisms, no matter who it was who would dish it out. but if my english professors thought i did it well, then who am i to judge them, right? hahahaha.
Teratogen,
Norman Mailer once said that if Dylan is a poet so is Mohammed Ali.
There are many critics who feel that LC is not a "legitimate" poet.
My suggestion to you is if you are not happy with your writings then look into classes. I certainly wouldn't seek the advice of a handful of self proclaimed experts. But that's just me.
On the other hand, maybe you should just experiment. Perhaps it will work, perhaps it won't. Oh crap, I may have just taken away Critic2's chance to offer you some advice. Darn it all. I so hate being selfish.

Hi paints,
I think I exchanged a word or two with you once a while back and I thought your signature was something you were saying to me. Oh well, I guess, in a way, it was.
There are some people that think Noman Mailer isn't a real writer. Matters of opinion, all.
Ali was a poet as far as boxers go, anyway. A pugalist poet. Or something close. I thought your advice to T. was sound and probably worth his while. Selfish, you say? It's hard being human and that is indeed a human trait. It ain't easy being green or words to that effect.
Sincerely,
Linda.

hahaha. well, i do consider mohammed ali to be a poet. so, according to mr. mailer, would that mean that anyone can be a poet? hahaha. i don't think mr. cohen has said any nice words about mr. mailer either. something about, "i know he carries a gun, and if i see him i'm gonna punch him in the stomach"? hahahahaha.
but anyway, paints, i don't think i really need that much advice. poetry is like art--no, scratch that, it IS art. who really is to judge? it's a very gray vault, y'know? some would say, yes, every piece of art has its place, its meaning, and its purpose. and some would argue that, no, there is a definitive line between good art and bad art. i really don't know what to think. but i also don't care that much either way. i've already taken classes in college and i don't feel like going back anymore. maybe if i was looking for a profession in this field, but, it's not like something you can learn to acquire skills at, not some kind of desk job... i dunno. maybe i'm making no sense. i think that as long as you know about poetry, the different kinds and all that, and if you are very, very attuned to language skills, then you're good to go.

Teratogen,
Perfect sense. Which makes the presence of obnoxious ego's like our boy Critic2 all the more ridiculous.
Linda,
we've not exchanged words before.

Sorry then. I guess I just saw something you had said and in my newbieness thought you were talking to me. I have, hopefully, figured the board out in the meantime. When I first 'joined', I thought it was 'real time'.
My apologies and maybe we'll talk in future. What am I saying? We're talking right now! Maybe that's why nobody talks to me anymore.
Linda.

paints: you are definitely right about c2. he purposely replied to all 3 of my poems, and tried to pretend he didn't know who wrote them. you should read his comments. i will just choose to not respond to him. that's what he wants anyway. someone to feed his ego, whether it be with compiments or with arguments. and i don't think he deserves that.
Greetings fellow members. I have yet to make any comments on the entries submitted to Judge Joe. When the poems were posted I printed them all so I could read and re-read the writing before commenting. I can understand the position Joe found himself in re judging. I do not intend to judge or compare but to simply give my own preferences and reactions to the poems. And I hope to do this without regard to the identities of the authors. This may be difficult as some have revealed their identities already.
I have been impressed with the standard of writing overall and find it not easy to isolate favourites. I do think that the event has inspired some very good writing and therefore was a valuable activity.
More later;
Cheers, Witty.

Ah, we're back to the trolls! It is such a snappy comeback. I expect next you will post an "Oh yeah man!".
