Oh my, Makera. I'm sorry to hear that. However, now that I realize it's a Basenji [the breed didn't mean anything to me at the time], I would like to get some direct feedback from you on the breed. It's one my former husband is fascinated with, due to its high number of unique characteristics. Please write me with any specifics you can give as to how they actually are to live with ~ and can you describe their 'yodel-like' sound when they're happy?

I'm sorry to see that you would 'require' that others go elsewhere to discover anything about you, when you're already here, and come here. Makera ~ that comes across as so ego-based.

I don't quite understand what you meant by that, Liz :?

You suggested I post the poem you remembered to "show the soft side" of me. How would that convince anyone whose mind is made up?
The link to see what I'm about is in my signature. Why is that "ego based" to leave it up to people to choose whether they wish to really know me or not? Sorry, but you lost me there.

About the Basenjis, they are part cat, child and monkey :D . Highly intelligent with a mind of their own, they are as Nature made them. Designed for survival in an African environment they are very keen hunters, have exceptional senses of sight, smell and hearing. However, they don't like getting wet, avoid puddles, and are afraid of the dark...

Why? Well, any foolhardy Basenji who strayed from the camp fire at night became leopard food. Oh, and crocodiles live in rivers...and you never know how deep that puddle could be!

'Genetic memory' is strong, so they are not easily trained. They share the same traits with the wolf and their cousin the Dingo, in that they can't bark, have no 'doggy odour', and only breed once a year (pups born in Winter/early Spring).

Here's a beautiful example of a typical Basenji pup:

Thank you for that great information on the Basenji, Makera. Are they endless and uncontrollable bundles of frenetic energy in the house ~ or, do they occasionally stop to take a breath, and land on your lap? Do they climb fences and trees?

To [maybe] better explain my comment ~ people become known in myriad ways. Opinions change, despite how dug in they may seem to or actually be. We're at a tremendous disadvantage here with all of that. What we write speaks for us, and our 'actions.' I remember the emotional impact your poem had on me. It was one that revealed a different kind of tenderness. You've been more than willing to show other sides of you here ~ absent requiring that people go elsewhere. That refusal and requirement suggest someone standing out of arm's reach, saying, "You come to me!" People are still 'choosing,' all the time, as to how they feel about you, based on what you write here. That won't stop. They don't even need to go elsewhere for it.

I'm not looking for other people to be convinced through a single poem. However, it was very on-topic and, in that process, could at least have shown a different side of you. That's all. There won't be any "really" knowing you, or me, or anyone else, here. That comes through "real" life ~ if even then.

Anyway, thanks for your great commentary on [and photo of] the Basenji 8) . Anything else you may be prompted to add to it, please don't hesitate :D .

C2 ~ I'm afraid only those with their graphics stored on a page somewhere on the web can upload images on here. You can't upload straight from your computer picture files. I link mine from my custom graphics page on AP.

The quotes are just click and drag whatever line etc. from the thread (below your post composition window), then put it between the quote tags. e.g. [ quote ] text [/quote ]. Don't know how to get them from other pages, though.
But I thought I saw you had figured that one out.

Question C2: Was Cato named after the same of OJ fame  ?

he was named after Peter Seller's manservant in the Inspector Clouseau films, so we could say "not now, Cato!" whenever he was misbehaving.
