Now, wait a minute, Charles  ~ you're going to let Makera's comments be the determining factors of whether that did/didn't occur? I can assure you that the vast majority of those who participated did so in goodwill and correct spirit! That's what matters.

You'll see. You'll be able to tell when you read all the poems.

That's good to hear Lizzytysh :D About the goodwill. And you are right. I shouldn't let someone who didn't even write a poem throw cold water on the process.

Exactly, Charles :D !

Thanks for the 'definition' of "Poetomachina" ~ I knew it was intended as an insult. I just had to figure out exactly how  .

Good grief!! How could anyone read "insult" into what I said? :?

I simply stated I wasn't into 'poetomachia' (not "poetomachina"), it only means a quarrel or contest among poets. :D
All I was saying was that I am not inspired by 'competing' in such things. Stating MY position, not a judgement of anyone else's.

Yes, there are contests on Allpoetry all the time. There are so many themes and subjects there's always something that 'fits' one's style or inspiration at the time. The main purpose is to gain a wider readership for prewritten poems as well.

So, why anyone would get huffy because I said I'm not a 'competer' is beyond me! Especially in view of the "sportsmanship" that has been exhibited by certain denizens of this forum.

Since I know hosting a contest is fun, I was relating to Lizzy and Laurie. Geez, Liz, if Laurie didn't think it would be fun, she wouldn't have agreed to judge it, would she?

Nor am I disparaging anyone else for entering... why would I, for heaven's sake!
When I say I don't care who wins, it's because it really makes no difference in the 'grand scheme of things', does it? Just as it makes no difference to me on Allpoetry either.

I guess there are very few who can really relate to anyone not being into 'ego wins'. I'm sorry you have misconstrued what I said - seems too many are so quick to project and assume the worst .

Seems to keep proving my point, unfortunately. :(

Have fun, whatever floats your boat. And I do wish Laurie well. The 'madness' was in reference to another poster calling the people on here mad... yeah. It could spread if they get frustrated waiting to discover the winner... it was a joke. ;)

Cheerio,

~ Makera

P.S. Charles, please check a good dictionary before accusing people of being "insulting". That is a known literary term.

Mareka when you pulled yourself high up on that pedestal WE did not raise you there.

You are the most sanctimonious, pompous, pretentious person I have ever had the misfortune to meet.

You didn't enter the contest so butt out. If you couldn't "lower" yourself to get involved in our bit of fun why get involved in any discussion about it. There are no quarrels or rows going on about it, it is just banter.

Seems to keep proving my point, unfortunately.

What is your point?

I'm glad that Partisans entry got thrown out, not long ago he vowed never to come on to this section of the forum. At least he got poetic justice!
He should have logged on in one of his other guises.

Yes, Paula, I can see the distinction you make very well... when others do it it's called "banter", when I do I'm called all those names.

Does that not indicate a wish to start quarrels where none were intended?

I know you never make your animosity towards me a secret, despite the fact that it is not mutual.

But, don't you see you have just demonstrated and reinforced my 'point'?

Namaste,

Okay, Makera ~

I accept your explanation on the "madness" comment. Thanks for the clarification.

Now, I'm confused about your comment, "I guess there are very few who can really relate to anyone not being into 'ego wins'. I'm sorry you have misconstrued what I said - seems too many are so quick to project and assume the worst." This comment makes it appear that you've thrown it all right back into being nothing more than a 'whose ego wins' war.....that, as opposed to a healthy competition on AllPoetry, which you do appear to think is healthy competition, given your announcements here of Georges' wins there. These two premises seem to be in direct contradiction.

Thanks.

Mareka banter is good natured that is the the distinction. Your responses always seem to have an underlying nastiness which always promotes the righteousness perfection, godliness that is Mareka.

it's a greatest, funniest, and the most intriguing contest i've ever been involved in! i won't "give a damn" to become a winner. writing poem in such mystery was a pleasure itself. i'm waiting for caustic comments and exciting attempts to identify anonymous authors. thanks for this fun!
and i won't say now who i am :P !

Well put strangerx. This forum was becoming badly caustic but thanks to critic2 (of all people) the atmosphere has improved greatly. Those who didn't want to take part were perfectly entitled to take a bike ride (rik) or pout sweetly from the sidelines (Makera).

The highlight so far for me was Martine's desperate attempts to complete her poem in time. Maybe I will be able to pick her from the rushed misspellings!

Hi Liz ~ :D

It's all about balance and motives, is what I'm really trying to say. Yes, I announced Georges' win on here as a counterpoint to all the razzing he had received for so long. It was a gesture of encouragement to him, the person, for his sincere creative efforts. If some could bother to remember, I have not taken it upon myself to tell anyone on here (or anywhere else) that their poetic efforts are crap!
Some people do get hung up on the 'winning', more than the artistic communion and opportunity for mutual appreciation. Just a matter of perspective.

Of course it's lovely to 'win', but it doesn't mean anything more than the fact that one's work appealed to that particular judge; not that it was necessarily superior to all the others. That's why I never view it as 'winning' or 'losing', just participating in our mutual creativity. 8)

My reference to Allpoetry was only in answer to the suggestion that contests there were no different from the one here. This is a very small one with almost all participants being familiar with each other, to some degree, hence a little more emotionally 'loaded'. The entries in those on Allpoetry can number up to 100 or so, with 3-4 new contests posted each day.

That is not to suggest that this one isn't equally worthy in any way. Only that there are more personal agendas involved...
Haven't some already speculated - anticipated - the aftermath of envy, whining and complaints.? ;)

All the best,

~ Makera
