ADAM COHEN RETURNS WITH HIS NEW ALBUM
‘LIKE A MAN’ TO BE RELEASED OCTOBER, 2011
It’s taken him rather longer that he might have expected, but singer-songwriter Adam Cohen has grown up.
Although proud of his previous musical endeavours: 1998’s self-titled debut album, 2004’s Ex-Girlfriends (Low Millions) and 2004’s Mélancolista, Adam Cohen calls his forthcoming CD Like A Man, his “proudest artistic achievement yet”.
Adam is the son of the legendary Leonard Cohen… all his life, he had sought an artistic space beyond the reach of his father’s looming shadow. “I was never terribly pre-occupied with living up to my family name,” comments Adam. “It was not until I was sitting at the dinner table with my father to the left and my two year-old son to the right, did I realize that I really wanted to, and I was ready to.” The result of this epiphany is Adam’s new album, Like A Man, which will be released on October 4th (Rezolute / EMI Music in Canada, Cooking Vinyl for the rest of the world). The first single, What Other Guy, is being released digitally August 23rd. Immediately following the release of Like A Man, Adam will be playing select markets in Canada, and then embarking on a 29-date European tour.
Intimate and romantic yet shrewdly reflective, Adam’s songs on Like A Man evoke something of his father… just as in any child, you can discern the echo of the parent. But there is Adam’s own unique and distinct voice and perspective too — a plain-speaking style freighted with disarming candour.
“Like A Man is steeped in my recognizing that I am in the family business. Despite my efforts to carve out a different identity, I really belong to a long line of people who have embraced their father’s business. And to have my father pronounce that I have world-class love songs on my record (Like A Man and What Other Guy) is a deeply gratifying compliment,” says Adam.
