Thank you Esther!
Two different days in Philly - at a theatre just blocks from where I live.
I like that!

Oh, DRAT!!! I was so excited to see the Deland, FL, thinking I could take my former mother-in-law to see it... only to find that it's on Sept 11, when I'll be in Orlando, having arrived on the 10th and returning on the 12th!
Thank you for posting this, Esther [even if the outcome for me wasn't what I wanted it to be].

I just returned from the cinema (Mao's Last Dancer, excellent), where SFTR will be screened later this week. There were several modest sized posters, advertising the upcoming screenings strategically placed, especially one pasted right on the box office glass window.
The reason this pleases me, is because for the IOW there was virtually no advance advertising. Only a mention that day on NPR radio and one time listing in that day's newspaper movie schedule. Yet, the IOW screening was well attended with an appreciative audience
So, I bought an advance ticket for SFTR for each of two screening at that same cinema, hoping to avoid the anticipated long line-ups.

For the third and last screening on Sunday, I have invited some "civilians" from my Bridge club to see it and they want to go to a cinema near the Beach and have lunch there.
Maybe there will be some new LC converts. How can they not love him.

Exactly, Arlene. And if they don't fall in love with him, they'll do well to carefully phrase what they say or they may find themselves speaking to a former Bridge club member.
Enjoy your multiple attendances

. The one day that it's about 90 miles from me [which I'd happily have driven], I'll have left the day prior on a train to Orlando and the day after the showing will return by train. To use a Sixties term... bummer! I'm so glad the dvd will be available.

More good news about the cinema screenings.
According to the manager of the Laemmle Encino Town Centre (Los Angles), Columbia is providing DVD's to be raffled off at each of the screenings.
So be sure to fill in one of those little white cards after you enter the theatre.

Thanks, Resonater for posting this website. It contains the image of the advertising poster I mentioned earlier. It really warmed my heart to see these posters in several places in the theatre. I asked the manager if they had any extras and could I have one. She said no extras, and they raffle off the ones there at the end of the run. But, for me she would make an excpetion. I have to check back with her assistant on Sunday after the last screening.
The image in Resonater's link is quite good if anyone wants to download it for themselves.

Alert - abrupt ending to the film
No Lorca interviews and no closing credits
I went to my first screening (of three) last night. There was a nice turnout.
The film goes to B/W at end of "Closing Time" then the screen immediately went blank and the house lights came up. We all sat there in silence waiting. Nada. There are no credits whatsoever at the end. And no Lorca interviews.
The theatre manager assured me that they screened everything they were given. A staff person suggested the distributor might have omitted the bonus bits for those who buy the DVD... package.
It was fun this time to spot Jarkko in the first row at the O2. I seemed to have missed that when I saw the film in Krakow.
I am going again on Saturday morning to Encino and on Sunday to Santa Monica. I just can't get enough of it. The film is thrilling!

I went to see the 7PM screening last night in Philadelphia, same thing. No credits or anything at the end. Just a minute or two of black and white footage of Leonard then nothing. Was a good film and even better seeing it on the big screen. I was disappointed to see there really wasen't any turn out for it at all. I went into the theater about 10 minutes before showtime and nobody was there. By the time the show started 1 other person was there. During the show I kept hearing the door open and close so I assumed people were coming in late. I was sitting in I think about the 7th row from front so I didn't turn around to look everytime I heard it open. When the show was over and I turned around to see who else was there but to my surprise there was only one other person there who turned up during the show. Making a grand total of 3 people at that screening

. So I guess it must have been the theater staff coming and going everytime I heard the door. I didn't see any local publicity on the film being screened in Philly this past week so I wonder if anyone even knew about it. I only knew because of this thread in the forum. So I'm sure if they advertised it better it would have helped. The really high tickets prices didn't help either. I know there probably would have been at least 4 more people there if not for those high ticket prices. When I walked up to the ticket booth to get my tickets there were 2 couples walking away together complaining that they were not going to pay $20 each to see a 1 hour film. So I wonder how many more may have shown up and done the same. I was shocked by the price myself because on the theater's webpage it said that tickets were going to be $10 each. The webpage also said there was only going to be 1 showing yesterday at 7PM but when I got there the poster on the door said 7PM and 930PM. I guess they had to add the second show to keep up with the overwhelming demand

! Hopefully the empty house didn't repeat itself for the second showing and the Monday night show also has a good turn out.

$20.00!!! Amazing! Today it was shown in Detroit at the Arts Theatre next to the Detroit Institute of Art. I wasn't able to make it but the cost was only $7.50 per person. I'll try to investigate the turn-out. The Fox Theatre was full last year in May, so hopefully many closer to the city were able to attend.

I went to a second screening Saturday morning in Encino (Los Angeles). Only eight people were there. Disappointing.
Today, I attended a third screening, this time in Santa Monica and it was just great!
Nice sized audience - applauded after some of the songs - and applauded enthusiastically after the film ended.
Of course, I just loved that and had tears in my eyes.
And it was fun spotting Jarkko (London) and also Marsha/friscogrl (Coachella) again in the film.
I even managed to get a mini-poster advertising the film (see image on post above) from a very nice manager. I asked the manager when I went in if I could have one and she had it ready, rolled with an elastic when I left. Thank you, Laemmle Cinema. You have a great staff.
I went with a few "civilian friends" from the Bridge Club. I think they enjoyed it, hard to tell. But we did have a lively discussion over lunch afterwards. Maybe not so much a discussion, rather more like me answering questions. But I loved every minute of that.
btw. The ticket price for each screening was $8.00.
