.. this is embarrassing.. someone just corrected me, I'm afraid.. (it seems I had the meaning of LOL wrong).. it seems its actual real and true meaning is: Lording Over Lingerie.. (not Laundry!).. at least now I can understand its popularity.. I mean "laundry".. who cares??.. And so, my dearest Lordship.. [let's both lord over your lingerie and see what happens].. [okay, I promise that's probably the last explicit mention of any of this]..

Violet- have you ever had to suffer text-speak though? While smilies and all other emoticons can be viewed in different ways, liked or despised, text-speak should be deemed unforgivable.
We have kids handing in exam papers over here that have answers written to include text-speak abbreviations! I am no big pedant about spelling and grammar on the face of it, but for the love of... something...!
I hardly ever get genuinely irate about anything, but if smilies upset others to the degree that I find text-speak annoying, and quite frankly - criminal, then cool...shoot me now

.. hey, remember A., we're installing a stockade, so don't be too free with the "shoot" talk.. (although, should you receive such punishment, you'd probably only receive some fairly nasty banana-inflicted wounds, now that I'm thinking about it)..

.. well.. my next comment on this text-speak business, now that I finally have a [damn] Blackberry, with its itsy bitsy key pad.. yikes -- how on God's earth is one ever to learn how to write on that thing???.. and so.. it's becoming obvious to me why "text-speak" happened in the first place..

.. of course, my Blackberry writing won't be text-speak.. it'll be more like:

.. aLisny, I undssstnd why ywo arE cncerned..I hAtee txext sp;eAk 2..

.. [note how, in frustration I resorted to "2" at the end of that, instead of "too".. and so, I think I've clearly demonstrated for us all the source of this [evilish] text-speak business: Technology is shrinking.. shrinking fast.. and our fingers are still, well, fingers.. so.. what's a human to do??

.. by this I do not mean to condone "text-speak".. I far prefer it when one of his Lordship's avatars goes on an illiterate tear, actually.. (that at least makes me laugh).. so.. maybe we could steer children in that direction]..

Hahaha! :D

In reference to the blackberry thing... I am still holding out on that... while I am sure that it could quite possibly make my life perfect (??) I am being a stubborn sod, diggin in and refusing to get one.. and possibly it could turn into a case of much good may it do me. I still write by candle light, I love my fountain pen, I love my notebooks...and both my desktop pc and my laptop, are ofcourse... old coal powered ones ;-)

As far as how to steer children goes... hmmm... there is a thought that hadn't occured to me! haha! Further deduction required me thinks...

Alisony,

Forget the Blackberry – get an IPhone (forgive me, Canada)! You will fall in big love with it, it is so much friendlier than a BB. Violet loves to coax complicated things, so BB is perfect for her. (XO, V.)

Thanks for the suggestions :)
I think that touch screens arent all they are cracked up to be (dont shoot me!) I have a nice enough little LG, simple, internet, email etc - also nice because it has a slide out qwerty on it, just one step away from being a smart phone. If I was going to upgrade, it would be a Motorola Dext - the main reason being because it's Android phone - but from a practical point of view... because of the slide away keyboard. I have been sorely tempted...

This is in danger of becoming a rather technical conversation haha - I have managed to abstain from getting deeper into the technology downward spiral that we are all dying from.
Cor, that's a tad depressing of me!.. true enough though.

This is one of my last stands! I shall not succumb to to it!! I shall resist!!! RAH!!!!

(help! ) hehe

Bloodyhell are we getting off of the general purpose of this part of the forum or what? :( Has to stop being quite so overwhelming I think...for my part atleast
