:P Liz, the French language. (Also I have a house quite close to Angers) And Angers is a most beautiful town and I would not go to New York or Rome even if you offered to pay my fare. Rome is big and smelly and New York is well just too American and when I think of America I think of the American presidents, Elvis Presley and Bob Dylan and my Americanised cousin who goes to the shopping mall in one of her many cars that do nothing for the atmosphere and I think America at the moment is a big headed egotitical country that does not need us so we won't go. Disney sums up America. Mind you they also produced Greenday!

Very eloquent, Glyn !! Although I somehow associate LC with the LA smog, traffic & SUV (did I read somewhere that's what he drives ??). My vote would be Austin, Texas (NY, NY is fine too).
And talking of Dylan....I'll be seeing him in concert next month so here's a hint Mr. Cohen !! I like to see my favorite artistes live......

Anywhere in France would get my vote, for what it's worth. I love the french version of Suzanne.

Good point, Linda. I like that.

My feeling regarding the decision-making on the next site goes like this:
(1) It's done by vote.
(2) Those who have never attended get one vote.
(3) Those who have attended Montreaux or Hydra events get two votes ~ they have a proven track record.
(4) Those who have attended both Montreaux and Hydra events get three votes ~ they have a proven track record, as well as consistency/continuity.

Those who have extended the effort and expense to show up previously are the most likely to do so again. Where they spend this time should not be determined by those who are anxious and willing to vote, yet not both of those to actually attend.

(5) In the event of a tie, Jarkko decides.

My feelings on Hydra: For many years, it was/has been Leonard's safe place of beauty, and refuge for restoration. By what I'm seeing/reading by the attendees this year, it has been and had the same impact on them. This time would hopefully have as one of its goals, that impact [it's a busy, stressful world out there]. Hydra has proven to be these.

My feelings on New York: I don't see New York as being the penultimate representation of America; however, I do see it as having the best and the worst. I see it as having very interesting facets; however, it's an area of stimulation, moreso than relaxation. The potential for harm to occur to an attendee is higher than other locations, a tragedy were that to occur in any form or fashion. Upstate New York as an option would be pleasant; however, the Leonard connection would be diluted.

My feelings on Austin: There's a connect; yet more to be enjoyed, culturally, elsewhere.

My feelings on France: A setting in the countryside would be wonderful. The French language is a valid/appropriate connection. Fares to France are affordable.

My feelings on Ireland: See France, except for the language aspect.

My feelings on Croatia: I can't comment on the country's offerings, etc. However, I sense that fares there might be prohibitive.

KUSH: Joni Mitchell, Leonard's friend, was accused of being seen somewhere in that area driving an SUV. It seems to me that Leonard would be more likely to be in a Mercedes....and I may have even heard that somewhere way back. Leonard and SUV = not a match.

GLYN: I agree on much of what you've selected for comment as representations of the U.S. We do have our beautiful areas, however.....

P.S. ~ My feelings regarding Rome ~~

Rome ~~ Very interesting and culturally rich, particularly historically; however, if you're going to get that close, you might as well go on to Hydra for the intimacy it offers; for those who have been there already to renew their island "friendships" ; and to support the island and the locals economically ~and do Rome before or after the event, as I recall reading that some did this year.

Hmmm....it's beginning to sound like my one vote would/will be cast for Hydra.

If I knew how to add a emotican it would be the red face one after reading my post. I should read bag instead of sack. Also message board would be fitting.
Actually Leonard was seen driving a SUV, the road up to Mt. Baldy required it. I can't see him driving a fancy car.
Glyn I am sorry you feel that way. However, the reputation does not represent the majority of the people I don't believe. The majority are hard working people that can't afford the large car, or spending money at the mall. Who donate to causes that do help people in need in countries around the world, I might add.

Sorry to burst all your bubbles and put an end to the wishful thinking, but it is not a question of everyone deciding like this. The only thing that matters is having someone to organise the event. Without that there is no event. The only vaguely credible name i have yet heard is Geoff Gompers, and that is assuming it is an NY based event. When it all comes down to dust the chosen organiser gets the vote, no one else. However, there does appear to be someone round here with more than enough free time on their hands that would be much better spent organising it. Just food for thought.

Hey, Pete...who's never been to Ireland...there ya' go! You're in the U.K., right? Not that far....Georges would certainly be willing to help. With such a vote of confidence from the Big P  , I'd be willing to help, with whatever I could do from afar. :) With a little networking and resourcing, you may have your desire fulfilled yet! :)

I don't know about you, but my bubble's still intact. Not that subject to the words of others....and, of course, where there's a will, there's a way....for anyone who's expressed their preference so far.

Kush,

I won't go so far as to say that I'm "right" regarding Austin. I know that Austin has a lot going on, yet that's from other people and I've never been there. I'm broad-brush contrasting Texas [once outside, or even still inside, Austin] with France, Ireland, Hydra. However, I've never been a big fan of Texas, either, Austin being an exception from those I've known from the north and northeast who have lived there.

It seems, as locations in the U.S. go, that Nashville might be a good compromise. At least music would be all-round to be enjoyed. The culture there is heavily music culture; it was Leonard's original destination when coming here; he lived in a cabin[?]/small farm[?] outside of there and had a horse; a pleasant locale could be located for however-many people. However, it seems that a coordinator/sponsor is the real issue, and so far, your current location is weighing in pretty heavily on that. Do you have connections in Austin that might help make it real? There's certainly a fan base there, so one would likely find a lot of cooperation and support.

P.S. ~ small p ~
Actually, thinking and thoughts take little time, and typing them only slightly more. 15-minute break at work allowed a response, as well as a variety of other activities :o , prior to returning to work-related, computer training.
