I am a violin teacher. I liked the expression "burning violin", a well played violin can burn right through you! I found out after I took this name that LC's inspiration for "dance me to your beauty with a burning violin" came from the idea of the bands that used to play 'welcoming' people to the Nazi death camps. I guess its not quite as positive a thought as I have of a burning violin.

Oh I don't think so Marsha...if it was, then you would have been "friscogirl"....dispensing with one letter makes it different!

ps..Sheila...I LOVE your explanation...how absolutely beautiful and touching.

pps..BV...I have always loved your Forum name...you had one reason for choosing it, but in the end it is so powerful...when connected with the reason behind the lyrics!

ppps...Mary..what a wonderful way to remember your beautiful friend...I use my kitties names in several other passwords. Molly was gorgeous!

Mine is from one of my favourite Matt Groening 'Life in Hell' cartoons - Bongo's my favourite character, and I feel that sometimes on the internet you're a tiny voice trying to be heard:
(it's hard to see it, but Bongo's writing 'Bongo is somewhat nifty' on the wall).

... Really boring and mundane but here it is: My initials are JAS (Jazz) and my street address is 4111.
Hence jazz4111 so wish it could have been more entertaining and original - but it is easy to use and easy to remember - I've used it other sites as well. Cheers!

I chose my name because I've always admired the character Parsifal in Richard Wagner's opera 'Parsifal'. I admire the opera, too. And I like the sound of the name. :D

I'm known as Parsifal on a couple of other forums. It doesn't do to complicate things.

Interesting choices, everyone.....Thanks for sharing! Mine is boringly obvious (cleverly revealing something about myself  ), but I felt I needed to make it clear that I was about forty years behind in discovering this gentlemanly genius. It hit me hard that Leonard had been out there all that time, and I had been unaware! I was stunned at all I'd missed but thrilled at the adventure ahead and wanted to make sure all the forum experts knew what a beginner I was (am).

I too chose the name because it is my surname but I have to admit every I send a new post I cringe when it appears and I say to myself you should change that posting name . Does anyone know if that is allowed ? My wife was one hell of a courageous lady becoming a LIPTROT

Hi Yon,

Welcome to the Forum! Just to let you know, you are probably not giving away too many secrets....I think many of us were born many years prior to 1967! Of course, in the diversity that we have here on the Forum, there are also many who were born a decade or two after you! You seem to be comfortably in the centre!

All the best,
Diana

The concert in Bonn 1979 is still one of my favourite concerts and it is easier to write than
Reykjavik1988.

Great thread! i love hearing(well technically seeing!)why people pick their names,i picked mine casue i love the song, the man who wrote it....and its got an actual name in it....and eh,thats about it

And here it is! :D

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i6i3EYso8sA

I knew one day...
One. One, two. One, two, three...

Well, my mama didn't want me
on the day I was born
I was born without a body(4)
I got nothing but scorn
But I always loved music
all I had was my hands
I dreamed I'd be famous
and I'd work at The Sands

Singing: Tabletop Joe, Tabletop Joe
Now everyone will know
That I'm Tabletop Joe

I had trouble with the pedals
but I had a strong left hand
I could play Stravinsky
on a baby grand
I said, 'I'm gonna join the circus
cause that's where I belong'
So I went to Coney Island(3)
I was singing this song

Tabletop Joe, Tabletop Joe
Now everyone knows
Yeah I'm Tabletop Joe

They gave me top billing
in the Dreamland show(3)
I had my own orchestra
starring Tabletop Joe
And the man without a body
proved everyone wrong
I was rich and I was famous
I was where I belonged

Tabletop Joe, Tabletop Joe
Now everyone knows
Tabletop Joe

Sing it old boy!(2
