Meet-up in Venice!!!

Hi - I will be getting into Venice on the Monday - subject to flight delays it would be nice to meet up before the concert.

Tony and I will be arriving in Venice very late on Sunday evening (our flight lands around 10.00 pm) so won't make a meet up then but we would be up for a meet before the concert.

For those folk who have decided only recently to join us in Venice Andrea has been very busy on our behalf organising and checking out various bars and restraunts for our meals and meet ups.
She has already kindly posted us directly the results of all her hard work with the names of bars and trattorias and a proposed timetable along with detailed instuctions on how to find the various venues.

As you can see Andrea is a very organised lady.

At the moment Andrea is taking a well deserved holiday at the Italian seaside but she will be back on the 25th.July.
She says she may visit an internet cafe while away but I think it's her intention to post the final Venice details up on the forum when she returns.

A little bird tells me that we may also have the Croatian delegation joining us in Venice.

Meeting points:

Meetup Sunday 2nd august in Venice:
Dinner 20.00 h at Ristorante Pizzeria S. Aponal 1251 - S.Polo 1251
After the restaurant we suggest to go to Campo Santa Margherita, there are different bars (outside sitting) , open up to 1 - 2 o’ clock . Its a nice campo and also less expensive, as frequented by local students . It is 10 minutes walk from the Restaurant Aponal .

Meetup Monday 3rd august in Venice:
From 18.00 h onwards in a nice and typical Bar Taverna called l’Olandese Volante (flying dutch) Castello, 5658 Campo S.Lio (near San Marco). There one can eat and drink, a with possibility of inside and outside sitting . We also got the confirmation that they very volonteerly accept our meetup before the concert (thanks to Francesca P. who went today 13.7 to talk to them ) . They were very kind and interested in us .

Meetup after concert :
We found a bar wiling to host the group for a meetup after the concert. It is Imagina Cafè in Ponte Dei Pugni- Dorsoduro3126, Campo Santa Margherita http://www.imaginacafe.it ) and it is open up to 2 o clock . We can sit inside and outside (10-15 minutes walk after the concert).
Arround San Marco the bars close early and at San Marco they have to be closed because of the concert .
Please check again this thread on 28th july, if there are some changings I will put them on this thread by then. (From tonight to -25 July I will be offline , just short visits from an internet caffè).

Hello Andrea,

My daughter (Linda) and I are probably the F+d on the list. Chances are we will be visiting the mainland of Italy on sunday. We will try to be back in time to join all of you for dinner. Otherwise, we will meet you at the bar on the Campo Santa Margherita. To go for a drink after the concert seems like a great idea too. Thank you very much for organizing everything!

One of the pleasures of walking around Venice is getting lost from time to time. In fact I think getting lost in this city is sometimes the best way of discovering many of it's hidden treasures . However sometimes when we have appointments to keep and people to meet a little guidance may be advisable. So rather than having to carry around and opening those 6ft. x 6ft. tourist maps I have knocked up a couple of A4 size maps that cover our stay in Venice.

The first map shows the location for our Sunday evening meal and also the location for our pre-concert meet up on Monday.
Andrea has wisely suggested the Campo Santa Margherita for our evening meet-ups for drinks and a chat so the second map shows the approximate route from the Monday night restaurant to Campo Santa Margherita and also the route after the concert via the Accademia Bridge from San Marco to Campo Santa Margherita.

I have had to drastically reduce the size of the maps to enable me to post them up here on the forum. If anybody would like the full A4 size versions for printing, use these links:

Hi Ken,
What a wonderful effort, and very good idea, I've just printed them off, excellent! Thanks, although my husband will still carry around a map, but getting lost is my favourite way of seeing Venice too. Am getting very excited as its getting closer, we were in Venice in June(planned before the concert was announced), and we stood roughly where we thought our seats would be, never attended a concert there before. See you all there then, and thanks again.

I have the ticket (as usual, grazie Paola!!!) but I simply didn't have any time to see anything about the accommodation or this thread and our meet-up. But will be there!

Also, if show is on Monday, I will take night train on Sunday evening and reach Venice at Monday morning at 8 am (Ken remembers from our last meet-up:). I don't know for the accommodation after the show, though - if we will be up until late hours, like last year in Lucca after the show, then I simply can catch the train in the morning... Maybe that hotel where most of you are is accepting people for one night only?

Seeing as I'm the self appointed The People's Republic Of Merseyside's ambassador to Venice I can meet you again at Santa Lucia station off the overnight train from Zagreb to formally welcome you to Venice.

I'm staying as usual in the Canneregio sestiere just a couple of minutes walk from the train station.

Maybe breakfast in my hotel after you have had a wash and brush up then we could walk round to the Hotel San Luca to wake up Jarkko, Eija, Willy, Wijbe, Andrea, Marco, Frauke, Ute and anybody else we know who staying there.

My employer ís sending me to America to work there for 6 months. I wanted to see Cohen in Piazza San Marco. Now it is not going to happen. I try to make our paths crossing in Colosseum. I am so sorry to hear that you had go give up your first row seat. At least it went to another forum member. Perhaps while you are in America you will be lucky enough to score a first row seat for one of his concerts here. May luck be on your side.

Mary, thank you so much for your comments. I'm going to see Leonard this year although I cannot come to Venice. I will be the first in row to reserve my ticket to the Colosseum at Caesar's Palace in Las Vegas! I hope to see many members there!
