Just saw Dylan in concert....his bark was in magnificent form although he tended to make the tunes a little monotonous. His present backup band is probably the best thing that has happened to him in recent years. In excellent spirits he even tried a few awkward dance steps. As usual he didnt utter a single word to the audience...even managed to include the band introductions within the tune of Rainy day woman before anybody realized it. Strongly recommend his oncerts. Apparently he has done 450 concerts in the past 4 years...this one raised 1.5 million dollars for marine sciences.
well this isn t the silliest post i ve ever seen , but how do you compare apples and oranges anyway , you like one better than the other or the same or hate them both,
but ive seen the referrence to poems and songs here one to many times not to coment , i happen to write music and lyrics , they are the same , a song is a poem put to music , the person that commented dylan never wrote a poem , obviously hasnt listened to much dylan, tell you what , start with ballad of a thin man or desolation row, THEN reply to this comment
that cohen is influenced by dylan is very obviouse , even in waiting for a miracle ,"you wouldn t like it baby , you wouldn t like it here , there is no entertainment , and the judgements are severe" the tone and even the phrasing are the same
NOW IF YOU HAD ASKED ABOUT HENDRIX AND SRV way different story , steve was just another blues player who could never have thought of the things hendrix did with a guitar on his best day, just a copy cat ,LOL , hope i didn t start anything here ,he he

I can't stand Bob Dylan! I don't like his voice! I don't like his music! I don't like the way he looks! He annoys the hell out of me! He always looks like he's on drugs and about to fall over! Leonard Cohen is a much better writer, a better performer, and he's much better looking. He stands up straight and sits up straight. He's a better dresser and knows how to present himself in public.

I think before you post stuff like the above you should write "IN MY HONEST OPINION". Just a suggestion.YankovicGretzky wrote:I can't stand Bob Dylan! I don't like his voice! I don't like his music! They are both giants. Each in their own way. To even consider attempting to compare them is a futile waste of human energy and effort.
It's like British Football Club Supporters claiming that their team's foreign players are better than the other team's foreign players.
Oranges and apples folks. Oranges and apples.
Some people achieve greatness. These two men have worked hard at their respective crafts to brighten all of our lives.
Slagging one off against the other is an exercise in Piffleness. ( Note the lack of infantile foul language )
You stay here in this thread if you want to, I'm going out to get a life.
Honestly. Some people..........

"Bipolar is a roller-coaster ride without a seat belt. One day you're flying with the fireworks; for the next month you're being scraped off the trolley" I said that.
Yeeaaahhhhh, okay, Byron.....if I must be reasonable about this, you're right. Apples and oranges. However, who can argue that:
.
Uh, before I go, can you direct me to that "life"
?
Well, I can't argue it, anywayLeonard Cohen is a much better writer, a better performer, and he's much better looking. He stands up straight and sits up straight. He's a better dresser and knows how to present himself in public.

The "Leonard Cohen is a better writer" remark is very debatable. All I want to say regarding this is Dylan has got a repertoire that no one will ever come close to reaching. In that repertoire you have some amazing records (Including his latest release). One of the reasons I love music so much is that every artist has something different to offer while in a universal sense are speaking about the same things. I think thats where peoples tastes come into play. We can have this same argument about Tom Waits and Bob Dylan. Some will say this and some will say that but in the end its just two different people with a different past contributing to the artistic world in there own style. The fact that were talking about "whose a better artist" I think is very small. Its like "my daddy is cooler then your daddy". I think this forum should be a celebration of Leonard Cohens music rather then worshipping him for all his artistic highs in his career. Right????
