Dear J.T.S,
"I will need to check trains etc." (sic)
What the heck do you think I'm doing right now?
All I can offer in reply is a few lines from a song I heard nearly 36 years ago: if my memory serves me well, it contains the lines...
"Well, I've been waiting, I was sure
we'd meet between the trains we're waiting for
I think it's time to board another
Please understand, I never had a secret chart
to get me to the heart of this
or any other matter...."
John, if I can get myself to Gloucester, then so can you.
Looking forward to seeing you there,
Andrew.

That's the spirit, Andrew :)

JTS, I'm glad you finally spotted us. I was begining to think it must have been something I said :) I hope you and Paul can make it, and your brother too, if he's a fellow Cohen fan.

Dear Linmag,
Thanks for the encouragement, and yes, I like the butterfly logo. This brings me to Elizabeth: there are whole websites devoted to butterflies!
I have personally visited several, and was amazed, and I would be more amazed if you (Elizabeth) replied to the P.M. I posted you just before I went to Greece on July 14th.
Returning to Linmag: let's get J.T.S. and all his crew down too !
I want to see the people behind the messages, icons, butterflies.
What's the agenda? Can I have a role, apart from being there?
Yours, mixed in geography and art,
Andrew.

Thanks, Elizabeth. It was Ben calling us all electronic butterflies that gave me the idea, then I found this lepidoptera site that had downloadable clipart.......After that it was nowhere near as easy as I thought it was going to be, but my technophile son sorted me out, as he always does, bless him

Andrew, how would you like to read us some of Leonard's poems? I never have the nerve to read them out loud, as I am sure they are meant to be read, and as a poet yourself I am sure you would do them justice. Or did you have something else in mind?

Dear Linmag,

Linmag ~ Gotta love those technofiles :D ~ particularly when they're right there in the home! Lucky you. Your choice looks so stained glass. I can so easily picture it hanging where the sun comes through, inside or outside. Hardly matters.

Andrew ~ Hmmm. I was thinking that it was me who hadn't heard from you. I'm wondering if your P.M. got through, or if I was already at 100% when you sent it. I've often wondered what happens in a case like that. Does the sender get notified? Does it somehow get returned to the sender, so all the content's not lost? However, I must say on my own behalf, that my life has been rather unexpectedly "preoccupied" [if a life vs. a person can be such] since about that date [details later]. So, it's quite possible that I haven't, but have intended to...and surely will.

I think it would also be quite fitting for you to read some of your own poems, including the ones posted here on the Forum. What a great gathering you folks are arranging.

What else did you have in mind, Andrew? Generally speaking, I think any contribution anyone is willing to make will be gratefully received. Elizabeth's idea of including some of your own poems is also good.

Dear Linmag,
The uppermost thought in my mind was, and remains, just being there. If space is allowed for me to read my poetry, I accept the invitation. It is however, an honour to be asked to read some of Leonard Cohen's poetry. I have my favourites; those which have touched me for decades.
I haven't written for the last nine months, yet drafts and sketches appear out of drawers and cupboards: there are at least 5 poems waiting .
Other plans involve Mikis Theodorakis, Hadjidakis and Vangelis: all in the aid of charity. In that respect, I will seek advice.
Will reply soon, on or off -board .
Andrew.

Thanks for offering to read us some of Leonard's and your own poems, Andrew. Please feel free to include anything you would like to share with us. I am assuming that this will be primarily a social evening, for people to get together and chat about their interest in LC or whatever else takes their fancy. A couple of people have promised to consider bringing along their guitar, so it looks as if there will also be a performance element, which is a real bonus, and another way for us all to share our pleasure in Leonard's work.

At the moment it looks like being quite a small, friendly gathering, and will certainly be none the worse for that. If there is anyone else out there who could get to Gloucester for a few hours on the evening of Saturday, 18th October, please get in touch and come along. We would love to meet you.

Dear Linmag,
My reference to Greek composers had a purpose: with a bit of luck I'll be able to provide a C.D. of my favourite bouzouki music (going back over 40 years) for the L.C. "get-together" in Gloucester. The price?.....membership of Amnesty International.
I've also written a poem for the occasion, and will be delighted to read it, if I can contain my laughter.
Please encourage others to attend......John the Shorts, George(s) Wright, Partisan, and all who love the works of Leonard Cohen.
Andrew.

Linmag (et al)

It looks like I may have to drop out of this one unless my bro is in town.

My reasons are:
  • 1. Aberafan are at home (ko 2:30)
    2. RWC matches start approx 5:00 that morning
    3. Wales are playing early the following morning (approx 7:00)
    4. The only reasonable train won't get me home until 2:30 ish
    5. I can't leave my cats uncatered for from 11:00 until 2:30 the following day (15+ hours even if the trains run on time)
This changes if my brother is in town as he drives, thus shortening my journey in every way.

Humble apologies, and I look forward to future events.

JTS
