Hi Cis and Bill's Bar....I too hope to be in Hydra in June '09. The "newcomers" will be joining the "old-timers". It sounds exciting! I have not much talent but will soak in all the gifts of the others and absorb the energy of Leonard on the island. Plus, enjoy the sunshine, the sea, the food, the wine, the walks, and the friendships! :D :D

I recieved a phone call last night from another Cohenite encouraging me to join the Cohen crew on Hydra next June. During the conversation he mentioned the Came So Far For Beauty concerts in Dublin a couple of years ago. I thought this a coincidence as I was wearing the Came So Far For Beauty Concert tee-shirt at the time of the call. I decided to check the details on this thread after work today.

Then this evening, just as I finished reading this thread, a song by Anthony and the Johnsons was played on the radio. Considering Anthony did such an incredible cover of Leonard's If It Be Your Will in the Came So Far For Beauty concerts, I decided to take this as a sign. I'm going to knuckle down and really try to make the trip. By the way, I'm not really one for 'signs'. Think I'm just really looking for any excuse to go.

One question Jarkko; Is there any hotel or area more central than the others or is the island so small that any hotel is 'local' as such?

Most hotels are located very near the harbour, so it's ok to choose any of them. Walk to the harbour will take just one or two minutes.
Only few are outside this central area - Miramare and some in the Kamini area.
This new website hosted by Kelsey Edwards (who used to work for saronicnet.com) has direct links to almost all hotels: http://www.greekislandsrealestate.com/h ... _for_hydra

OK a question!
Has anyone travelled from london to Hydra by train and Boat? A 'friend' of mine suggested this as an alternative to flying on the basis that it would be more of an adventure. :!: (waits for everyone to fall about laughing  ). Looked the itinerary up on a travel site and the journey did seem to be less of an adventure and more of an expedition!

Stargazer - I really considered going overland when I went to Hydra. I had never flown before going to Hydra was my first flight but it is a long and cumbersome journey overland.

What beautiful photos! I am filled with nostalgia for the warmth of the weather and the people and the utter peacefulness of the island. I have to get back there, somehow!

Hi, everybody,

Is it still time for me and my partner in crime to sign in for the Hydra meeting next June? It would be our first...

Iguana (aka Ioana, the one of hundreds pictures ... :) )

PS Yes, Laura, that's December! I kept repeating that to myself at each click ... And don't shun away the calamari. You may not like it, but you definitely have to try it... or else! :)
