Mat~
I have zero interest in traditional haiku. Sorry.
Children in grade school use the 5-7-5 pattern I used. I don't know what is pretentious or pompous about that. It is the extent of my use of the form. If by some bit of luck I staggered into the realm of the traditional, it was pure chance. I love and respect the birds I was writing about and hoped these pieces would convey that along with visual 'snapshots' of my perceptions.
"Struggling efforts"?? I enjoyed writing these. The poems were blind-judged by English professors and Eng graduate students. If they fucked up by choosing this and/or my other poems, I cannot help that. Don't worry, I still don't think I can write worth shit, okay? Seriously.
Maybe you just wanted to flaunt your extended knowledge of the haiku-form?
It interests me, not.
What a drag.........

I see you have removed the evidence of your fledgling efforts, above.
Wise move.

Is there any particular reason for your revoltingly aggressive posts, Mat? "Struggling efforts", "fledgling efforts" "truth getting out", you really do have a problem it seems.
Do you have some personal history with Laurie that has led to your ungenerous comments. Are you hurting because of someone else's success?
I know your own writing is highly praised here but surely you don't take that critical acclaim seriously. Why don't you declare your real motives or have the grace to apologise to Laurie for your snideness.

Dear Sideways,
A.A. is a lot more skilled at being "revoltingly aggressive" than I am when critiquing the poetry of others.
I am merely a "fledgling" at this game.
I am practicing what might be termed "Laurie speak".
And Laurie, being the master/mistress of this ignorant skill, deserves the efforts and attention.
But thanks for correcting me.
I have practiced enough it seems.
Regards, Matj

ah, so Laurie hasn't joined the herd in praising your writing. rise above it, your posts on this thread do you no credit at all.

Laurie, what a shame that you removed your writing (apparently) because of the snide and aggressive posts by Mat. I think we should club together to buy him a copy of "I'm OK, You're OK". I hope he feels ashamed that he has spoilt the sharing of your success with others here.

Time is a wonderful tutor, Sideways.
your posts on this thread do you no credit at all.
Do you mean that I need more practice at "Laurie speak"?
(Hint: You don't have to answer as it is a poor joke.)
Enough said.
And Sideways is right Laurie. You should re-post your haiku
and I should shut up.

Came to search for your Raven piece and to offer congrats Laurie. You've deleted it. How's anyone s'posed to read the bloody thing if you've deleted it? We have to buy the book? Doing signings?

After getting grief about it, I decided it was a good time to hit 'erase' -- something I have been doing for some time around here (deleting poems after a few days).
It's funny last year my next-door-neighbors had me sign their book that had my One poem.
Here it is...(it too will self-destruct in a few)

Hey Laurie, each one of these conjures a strong image and begs to be read slowly and savoured. I can see these birds! I like it muchly. Thanks for resurrecting it for me.
and Congrats again! Well-deserved imo.

Sideways Sue
- you are beginning to sound exceedingly like another poster here who has gone quiet of late. The turn of phrase, the assumption of correctness, even the relationship of your name to the poster's profession!
The jury is out - but not for long

Circling, circling noses to butts
tails held in stiff indecision. Fangs
ready to scare and tear with a flinch
tiny as a spark that only alpha
males could detect.
The pack watches, gnawing
on bones like they were popcorn
at a movie theatre in the moonlight.
Please. Do go on.....
