Dear Iubita ~

In so few words, you have spoken many volumes about real life and the heart. Thoughts, emotions, dreams, desires, ideas put into words may end up the most precious, if not the only, lasting memory of us by our loved ones. They say a picture paints a thousand words, yet words can also paint a thousand pictures.....and be imbued with the spiritual realities that could never be seen in a photograph. I am so happy for you that your aunt gave you your father's manuscript/novella. It sounds like he was brought to life for you through it. Even the "lousiest" poetry here could become a child's or adult's lifelong treasure. Thank you for sharing your very personal story.

Dear Margaret -

Thank you for your kind encouragement. This "lousy little poet" won't give up just because some people are at the same time unable to criticize in a helpful way and unable to simply be quiet. You may take this as a promise, though to some it might be a threat.

And I hope that your advice will be followed by all those who posted their poems in the past and received a thrashing that didn't do anything but prove the critic's own incompetence in both literary and social matters. To all of them I'd like to say: "Come back and share, there is an increasing number of good people around here who will always be ready to stand by your side."

Dear Iubita -

You told a wonderful story about the value literary expression might have, even when it is not finished. Besides giving you a true picture of your father the novella opened a whole world for you, the world of self-expression, and you've allowed all of us to see how well you fare in this garden of words, how beautiful the flowers are that you cultivate there.

Yes, to do this kind of gardening, which sometimes is painful and relieving at the same time, and which at other times makes us feel joyful light flow through our soul, we often need encouragement, and we need help by friendly critics. We don't need fools to rush in...

Thank you for the past flowers; and I look forward to those the future will bring.

Iubita and others, lovely to see some dialogue of reason, honesty and care re writing of posts and verse. Writers giving something of themselves will have some benefits somewhere for somebody. Who is to say if a "bad" poem has no merit? A gift no matter how meagre will be picked up somewhere; like a message in a bottle washed up on some deserted shore. A nasty, snide or sarcastic insult is no gift. It is not even a criticism! It is merely a self serving shallow entertainment for the self styled "critic". It is an attempt to take with no giving in return. We have yet to see some helpful critic give a useful evaluation of these member's poems. Perhaps that is because a real criticism would also expose the critic; who then becomes equally as vulnerable as the poet.
Iubita, your story of your father reminds me of something similar with regard to a dear friend of mine who was in the process of trying to complete a book at the time of his death. Probably it will never be published, but the project was within my experience and I was definitely affected positively by the excerpts that I read.

Cheers, Witty Owl

Nice Point, Witty.
It's amazing how many will come on board with the bad boy, not realising that the bad boy has no substance or portrays something he is really not.
He probally wants to be a good boy but is afraid of the criticism he doled out on others and the crowd do love a rebel.........don't they?
The braverhearts will expose and share with the board much finer feelings, often these people are regarded by the bad boys as the sissies or nerds to words. They gang up and attack and scorn and ridicule much like was done to Christ on the cross.
Take heart however, Witty................i suspect that our reward will be in the libraries of heaven.
