Hey Tinders - I bet you would prefer Juergen to sit next to you on the sofa instead of some out of date and out of mind hippies from the past !

henning...i'm sure if bernadine wanted to sit on a sofa with juergen she would come along to hydra next month where i see our old friend is on the participants list this year...

...luckily for you i don't think she has quite finished with her 'out of date hippies' yet....i'm sure by the time of our walking weekend in september bernadine will be near to having had enough of old and decrepit sofa companions...but hopefully before she does move on to younger and more virile men she will have a chance to pose on a sofa with haiger's very own elderly singer songwriter ..ta ken

Ken - speaking about virility: I was the first of the walking group on top of the Welsh mountains and I will be first of the group to reach the Hydra monastery this year. Only 30 minutes to go and we have managed to leave behind the first half of this godforsaken day.

henning.....remember the 2005 monastery walk which for many reasons went down in forum history?

...i think you where indeed first up but look at the consequences of your actions in the first photo......then look in the second photo to see how i approached the top.....

....the words tortoise and hare somehow come to mind......ta ken

(both photos by jarkko who of course never shed one bead of sweat during the whole ascent)

Yes well done, like Y.L I have nothing to say, (except I wish I were going to Hydra :(. ) But also wanted to be on page 100, even though I'm a newby. :)

Who'da thought when we ventured up that Welsh mountain almost 2 years ago, that 100 pages later we would be still writing on the thread.
I guess there is another 100 pages in us when we get back from our German trip and with a lot of new people to add to the pot, its gonna be very interesting. I wonder if there is money in this thread Phil, could we get it published as a mad crazy book???

I am just worn out from entertaining the Duke, the Dalai Lama, Mr President and today Mr Dylan, he has such a great sense of humour too, even going so far as to put on my songs of love and hate t shirt, but I wanted to be on page 100 too :) :) so dropped in before i lie down from all last weeks excitement.

Ken those photos from Hydra speak more than any words ever could. :) :)

I think I will save my next sofa pics for September and save the best for last . Got that Phil ???

Phew maybe I wont have to buy all the drink after all.

Hi Beatriz - welcome to the advanced madness. There is no way back to normality when you return home but none of us is looking for such a thing. Don't expect any mountains or lakes - we just walk a few miles and use it as alibi for drinking and dancing and fooling around.

I took the liberty of looking up the meaning of FEW on Wiktionary and to my great delight here it is :

"Although indefinite in nature, a few is usually more than two (two often being referred to as "a couple of"), and less than "several". If the sample population is say between 5 and 20, a few would mean three or four, but no more than this. "

Can I take it then that the walks will be three or four miles max but we will be having "several" drinks which is by definition a far higher number
Happy days

Thank you all for your kidness!
And thank you YL for improving my English skills! I'm a bit worried about it, I don't know if I'm going to be quick and good enough to deal with you all...

Beatriz I am sure you will be absolutely fine we are all novices at this walking game ! Except Ken of course he can do it backwards ! However just in case you should get detached from the rest of us here is a little something to keep your spirits up while the rescue comes :

Coming back for you

If your feet are hurting
And your legs have gone all weak
You know that we will wait for you
Your whereabouts we’ll seek
We’ll look for you in everyone
And call the police too
You won’t be on your own for long
We’ll be coming back for you

We’ll look behind the factories now
Until the night is due
In the fields, among the trees
Just as the rain comes through
When springtime starts till summer stops
In the name of someone who
We’d gladly spend another day
Coming back for you

You’ve handed down our sentence now
We know what we must do
Another mile of silence
While we’re coming back for you

There are many in this life
And many more to be
Since you are a shining light
There’s many that you’ll see
But learn to deal with envy
Now you chose the precious few
Who left their pride on the other side
Of coming back for you

Even arm in arm I know
We’ll never get it right
Even when we try to give you
Comfort from the night
But you have got our word on this
And all of it is true
It must be said we’re off our head
Coming back for you
