Lizzy very observant as usual and what a strange coincidence . I am trying to work out if there is any significance to it !

Lizzy
It took me a while but I've worked it out . They have been married a lot longer than us !
Phil
It's gotta make you wonder if they've managed that by doing things the reverse of what you do  ... "the significance"?

phil......i know i have previously mentioned this here and elsewhere the subject of the LOCAL yorkshire wines i see on offer in the bar of the west yorkshire playhouse...on my last visit i took a photo of the wines on the bar (see below) and have been doing some research and much to my astonishment discovered that it's not some yorkshire trickery but there does indeed exist a thriving yorkshire wine growing industry.. the wines on sale at the theatre are from the leventhorpe vineyard just outside leeds city centre...so bugger me you tykes not only grow blackpuddings but grapes as wel!!!!!!!

...whatever next.....derbyshire champagne?

http://www.sugarvine.com/leeds/feature_ ... ?story=173

....however i still have not found any evidence of the mythical yorkshire tea plantations

Lizzy if your theory is true then I can only conclude that theirs' is a traditional marriage where the wife does all the cooking cleaning and housework because the opposite is the case here . Jean sits on the sofa drinking cans of lager watching football while I toil away ! It's a hard life but someone has to do it .

Ken
We not only grow blackpudding and grapes side by side but we have developed a new plant that is a cross between the two . We call it a "grapudding ". The skin is a bit tough but once you bite through it the juice of the fruit is blood red and delicious The only problem is a bunch of them weigh a ton
Happy days
Phil

That reminds me - the other day I was spreadeagled on the sofa with a can of lager watching the football on the TV and pondering my future and I said to Liz;
"If ever there's a situation with me that something bad happens and I am comatose and there is no hope I want you to cut off all liquids into my body and then switch off my life support system"

She grabbed my lager and threw it out the window then, with great force, put her foot through the TV screen.

Maybe she misunderstood me....

 ... or maybe not, Pete :) . "When will they ever learn... ohhhhhh, when will theyyyyyyy ever learn... "

And, Phil, I typed my entire response to you yesterday afternoon and when I clicked Submit, it all disappeared... I wasn't logged in, yet had been able to reach a Reply screen. Go figger  . I just abandoned it for the day and went to the Royal Manor Vineyard to buy a bottle and listen to some live music, instead. I toasted you and your dishpan hands, of course... the least I could do given the distance.

Anyway, it really doesn't seem that the ultra traditional scenario you describe is what got that couple to 83. The one you describe in your own life, however, does lend some understanding as to why you seemed so keen to leave Jean abandoned to those sweat shops a while back.

Now, in your response to denise's comment:
denise knowles wrote:Now come on yorkshire lad, everyone know's it is alway's the WOMAN who is giver, and the MAN who dose all the taking. You may not realise, but you could have just started WORLD WAR THREE with that remark.lol:
The approach you've described below may be working against you:
Sorry Denise
You are quite right because when my lovely Jean read the post she GAVE me a big whack across the back of my head and I sat there and TOOK it !
YL
The next time you're confronted with a behavioural choice, you might want to try standing up and taking it. That successful couple has been around sufficiently long to have been the originators of the well-known phrase:
"Stand up and take it like a man."

And while we're speaking of all this, I could never really buy your bags filled with gold explanation for the sweet shape of your legs. From what I've read here, there seems to be a lack of corroborating evidence. The cache of gold story does hold more appeal to a man, though, I must agree, but I'm more inclined to weigh in on their being your body's adaptation to maybe, at one time, having tried my suggestion and, as the situations continued to arise, fatigue set in and you tried to get by with half-standing; and, as Jean smacked you back into sitting to make her point that these were but half-hearted efforts and unacceptable, you finally just gave up and remained sitting.

You can't just half-step on this stuff, Phil. Who knows how many additional marital years you could secure by changing this one seemingly minor choice. Stand up and take it like a man, Phil, and please let me know how it goes.

At your wedded bliss service,
Lizzy

Ha ha ha Ken, you are a gas man!

You know how it is with mountains, lots of little nook , crannies, paths that lead to other places and paths that lead to nowhere.

The fruit of the "grapudding" is very much like this thread in that it is a unique and rare phenonomon which should be experienced by as many people as possible . The people that first found this wonderful fruit guarded its precious secret with their lives determined that only they should enjoy the experience. However as time went by most of these people realised that the fruit of the "grapudding " should be available to anyone who happened to stumble across it .
This made that community very popular among the rest of the world because they were seen as a kind and tolerant tribe willing to share their good fortune of having come across such an amazing discovery .
So in answer to your question Denise I would say that the best place to look for the "grapudding " is in a place that has a temperate climate with tolerant conditions but also in an open position allowing it to grow along side other types of fruit with differing but equally interesting tastes

Very funny as usual Phil... I wish my brain worked like yours. Its great to have you here Denise, you are keeping our thread alive and well. Sometimes it falls asleep for a little while but Spring is here and then Summer so lets hope there will be lots more fun to read.

It is very hard to come up with witty replies when you see the quality of the wit on this thread but I always say there are creators and appreciators, we both need each other :)
