The old year-ends a new one begins
To my forum friends far and wide
I wish you joy and happiness
Until I am at your side

The passage of time does not decrease
The affection I hold for you all
That’s why I keep your photographs
Pinned to my kitchen wall

They are a constant reminder
Of the friendship that we share
And how the abuse of alcohol
Can slow down wear and tear

...just caught up with the thread...big thanks to pete and phil for the wonderful poetry and the rest of you for the laughs inbetween.....

...big thanks also to phil for letting me know about the voodoo doll it's saved me a trip to the doctors...i've been having a lot of short stabbing pains in my back and neck of late...i can relax now as i realise it's just part of phil's south yorkshire workingman's voodoo club activities...although i have to say the pain is not as bad as when the american forum women were sticking pins in a liverpoolken doll a while back.....

...i also note looking back on this thread that as 2010 comes to an end it’s reassuring to know that our modest activities on this side of the atlantic are being ‘referenced elsewhere’ for everybody's benefit and may for all we know have even been cross referenced by the historiographers (my new word of the week) of the forum …also good to hear that ‘why theirs and not ours or if theirs then next it should be ours’ has been officially noted apropos our meetings with leonard and the other gentle soirees we arrange..

….as noted elsewhere I have decided that the year 2011 is going to be a leonard cohen free year for me……so at least for the next 12 months I shall have to leave behind the world of stage door stalkers, random tree planting, blouse throwing fans, leonard’s scarf, and thankfully most of all reading about leonard’s sexual attraction to elderly ladies etc. etc…….

...for my trip to dublin next week I’ve managed to obtain a health and safety certificate which allows me to take out of the uk for the very first time my matchbox containing the infamous memento of our escapades in barmouth and the surrounding area …
..as you see from the photo below the matchbox and it's contents are sitting ready to be packed along with some leonard cohen goodies for our friends on the mainland…hopefully this will be the only leonard cohen activity that I will be involved with until 2012…..

so a HAPPY NEW YEAR to you all…and be careful what you wish for.....

Ken.. looking forward to seeing you next week, but I do not want to see what is inside that matchbox.

Yeah it is gonna be a Leonard Cohen free year for most of us next year.

I wish all my friends the most wonderful wishes for the coming new year and let's hope we all stay in touch , if not in person, at least in the virtual world

Much love

Every poet, friend and mountaineer
I wish you the very best New Year!

It's a treat to see that picture again, Bernadine! Really nice that you popped back in, Judith:-) Ken - enjoy Dublin. The t-shirt is excellent, and an essential fashion item for the 'Leonard Cohened-out'. At that price, I'll just imagine wearing it.

A Plea to Ken

A year of Cohen abstinence
Please do not contemplate
Last year’s man and Joan of Arc
Great songs of love and hate

Twelve months without The Partisan
Or The Gypsy’s Wife
Is that what you wanted Ken
In your secret life

Just think of all those evenings Ken
When the night comes on
And there are no more Memories
Of singing The Stranger Song

You will not have an Anthem Ken
Or Stories of the street
No Marianne to say farewell
Or Sisters of Mercy to greet

And what of Lady Midnight
Who Came So Far For Beauty
Everybody Knows you must
Be For Real and do your duty

You’ll become a lonesome hero Ken
By The Rivers Dark
A heart with no companion Ken
Wandering in Sefton Park

Stick to being last year’s man
Improvisation is the key
Learn to listen Jazz Police
And Dear Heather just like me

Waiting for The Miracle
Of some other Master Song
Is just like drinking Iodine
It will never come along

So Take this longing From Your Life
Give Leonard one more try
Or you will be The Traitor Ken
That’s No Way To Say Goodbye

And as you search on boogie Street
For an Avalanche of song
Just Take This Longing from my words
One of us Cannot Be Wrong

But truly If It Be Your Will
I shall help you all I can
For we both live in The Tower of Song
So You Know Who I am

I agree. Phil you have surpassed yourself. This is just a dream, and not an attempt to persuade you, but I could see you publishing a book.
