It sounds so beautiful... does evoke the memories of being there. I was trying not to let myself get overwhelmed by Hallelujah. FBR did me in.

Just watched the video. Beautiful. The packaging was really classy too. Better than Bird on a wire if that is possible. I wondered at the choice of 'That dont make it junk', never having seen Leonard perform this song, and not being really fond of it... sorry to be a little negative. However, seeing him sing it made all the difference :D It was excellent. :D :D

All in all a great job.

I am so happy, I just watched Songs From The Road on Blu-Ray! It is stunning, absolutely sublime! Leonard's performances are so powerful, I am humbled and awed by his greatness. I am thrilled to have just experienced this incredible set of songs, it far surpassed my expectations. This is an absolute treasure, beautiful beyond words. Wow!

Since I bought the dvd last saturday, I can't stop watching Avalanche. It is such a wonderful performance ... Leonard Cohen only needs a guitar and plain white light to create very moving and emotional moments. Who else could do that? It gives me goosebumps.

Isn't it amazing how watching a live performance changes your perception of the song. My husband, not a fan of the slower tempo of the songs on '10New Songs', when he saw LC perform 'TDMIJ' at the beginning of the tour in Kitchner, this and 'Boogie Streets' immediately went on his favorites list.

Received my CD/DVD and LP today from Amazon. Also thought, why the fish (which curled up entirely :D ). Anyway, the LP sticker says in part '2-LP 180-gram /Audiophile Vinyl/In a Beautiful Gatefold Jacket. Imagine that lovely photo quadruple size. I don't know if I can bear to open it so I don't know if there is a fish inside this one. Given the size, maybe it's a whale.

Having seen this in the theater on Sunday, what really stood out for me was the fun everyone had on stage during HWNC. My favorite, aside from the excellent version of H, was FBR. So intense, acccompanied by his face that has such a haunting quality during this song.

Ed Sanders - excellent choices - Thank you! Now, please, we need 'More Songs From the Road' when this tour winds up (hopefully 'A Singer Must Die' from the Sligo performance will be included).

Warmest regards,
Mary

Yes, I totally agree...we need a "Songs from the Road 2" including this final tour. So many moments have been unforgettable but I do agree with Mary on "A Singer Must Die" in Sligo. What a shock!! The moment Leonard started those chords, it was like time stood still.

Our encouragement is that they are still filming...and filming...and filming...

ps...Mary, my little fish kept curling up and up and up too....heh-heh...."fish of a fin"...is that like "birds of a feather"?

Hi

I have always being a bigger fan of live cd's rather than studio cd, therefore i rarely listen to any of cohen's studio one, even though i have them all, i rather his live one. His recent Live in London is a great album and was looking forward to this one, i got it yesterday and listened to it on the way home. Some the new song(not on live in London) are great, especially Avalanche and Lover lover lover. However it did get me thinking about all his live albums and i took a look through them and the songs in each album are roughly the same(at least 3/4 are the same mainstay songs). I know i am being a bit critical, but it would be nice if the next album would be a live album of his prevoiusly unrelased live songs.
For instnace
A singer must die
Feel so good
Born in chains

and a few more, even some on the new ones from this album. Although i do like the this album, it is also a pity none were from Ireland. If there is another (part 2) then a singer must die from sligo and even hallaluheh from sligo and feel so good.
I will try and watch the dvd at some stage, the price of the album is really good value (14 euro in hmv)and worth the buy, but as i said it was a pity that with a bit more imagination, it could have being a great album.

Just watched SFTR video last night - it is sooo brilliant & stunning, that I can almost forgive there being only 12 songs - it is truly a PHENOMENAL piece of work - I am totally blown away!!!

I had seen a screening in a restaurant/theater 3 days ago, & of course, it was incredibly awesome, great to see on a bigger screen, felt like we were actually at the concerts, & it was a good audience - I was very glad to find that I wasn't the only one hooting & clapping as though we were really there - alot of people were doing it - that was beautiful!!

However, I got the video in blue-ray - & it's SOOO INCREDIBLY VIVID!! If it was just a tiny fraction of a hair more vivid, the band would be LIVE IN MY LIVING ROOM!!! So I really cannot decide which is better - very big screen & good audience, or band live in my living room (with the ability to get even more deeply absorbed as there is less distraction in the environment) - it's a very close call!!

As for Our Man's performances - "what can I possibly say??" - EVERY SINGLE ONE IS A GEM OF A GEM - LEONARD COHEN IS THE VERITABLE "MEASURE OF ALL MEASURES". . .

As someone else here mentioned, I was really struck by Leonard's performance of That Don't Make It Junk - I loved that song from the first time I heard it, but seeing Leonard perform it live gave it a whole new level of depth/beauty/meaning - absolutely amazing!! I had to replay Bird On The Wire several times, as it is soooo unbelievably passionate & beautiful (as always, but if it's possible, EVEN MORE. . .); I also agree about Avalanche - what an incredibly intense performance!! And Chelsea Hotel & Halleluja & everything else - I can't pick just one or two, because EACH AND EVERY ONE IS THE SUMMIT OF ALL THERE IS!!! The whole thing is sooo hugely amazing, it really leaves one speechless - there is nothing in this world that can contain the phenomenon of LEONARD COHEN. . .

holydove :D

I agree whole heartedly with your comments about SFTR. Could not be better. I was the person who did not like 'That don't make it junk' till I saw him sing it on this beautiful disk. I have been watching it on a portable dvd player and, while the picture is small, when you listen with earphones it really is quite an intimate experience. I enjoy it more than my tv as you don't have any other distractions.

Please let them do more Songs from the road.

Really love SFTR dvd and cd combo... just in time for long winter nights in front of the fire. Personally, I'm voting for more SFTR entitled 'songs from the road in ireland ' :D :!: Now, that would make this irish lass very happy indeed...
