October 7th, it's poetry day!
I'll just put pen to paper.
Mustn't ever disappoint
Or leave it 'til much later

October 7th, it's poetry day!
I'm writing my first line
And thinking of a second
A second that will rhyme

October 7th. I've got all day!
To write a verse or two
No rush. No need to hurry
A poem just for you.

October 7th. The day is young!
But there's nothing in my head
I need some inspiration
I'll go a walk instead.

October 7th. Still poetry day!
And now it's afternoon
And I'm still walking for ideas
I'll get there very soon.

October 7th. The daylight fades.
I'm back with pen and paper
Staring at my very first line
With nothing coming later.

October 7th. The date is clear
It says so on my watch.
But something seems not quite right
The hands don't move - they've stopped!

October 7th? It's not today?
I think I'd better quit
And now I've disappointed
Oh dear! Oh my! Oh shit!

Not a poem in the tradition or quality of this thread, only a few words put one after the other(not many entrants also), but I've won 6 tickets for the Liverpool Phil that I can't use!!!
Negotiations will commence..

Yesterday was National Poetry Day, so for this Facebook Friday we’d like you to share a short three line poem, like a Haiku, about Liverpool Philharmonic. There are 3 prizes up for grabs,
1st prize is a whole box (6 seats!) for Kodo,
2nd prize is a pair of front row ...seats
and 3rd prize is a The Best of Kodo CD.
If music be the food of love
I've become amorously obese
In Hope Street
Thank you so much for the poems, we're really enjoyed reading them all!
1st prize goes to David Everatt,
2nd prize to Zoe Mahler
3rd prize to Maureen Price.
Look after yourself and (each)others. All the best Dave ♫♫♫

LOL ~ I hadn't thought of that, but the text does measure up [or down or sideways] to that, now that you mention it. Good call, YL.

Grumpy Old Man

I would like to explain if I possibly can
The troublesome thoughts of a grumpy old man
It’s not that he likes to always complain
But he’s got no umbrella and it’s starting to rain

The governments got all its policies wrong
And the band on X Factor are murdering his song
The kids of today are lazy and loud
They hang on street corners in a lawless crowd

His lumbago is giving him plenty of jip
While the recession is hovering on double dip
Behind with the mortgage his car in arrears
He’ll be burdened with debt for the next twenty years

And when he retires for a well earned rest
There will be no pension or eggs in the nest
His meagre existence will be hand to mouth
Unlike the rich bankers who live down south

What makes it worse they caused his demise
“Lynch the rich buggers “ the grumpy man cries
But I could have told him it is always the way
The rich just get richer while the rest of us pay

Thank you Bernie for congratulating me on that milestone . I suspect 400 of them have been on this thread and as it seems to be slowly coming to an abrupt halt that means I probably won't get to 1000 . What a shame ! It was good while it lasted !
BTW I have replied to your PM

I always try and go quietly in the night by aiming for the side of the bowl to prevent the sound of water hitting water whereas my lovely Jean finds that difficult and wakes the whole house up with the sound of waterfalls . I keep telling her to aim off centre but she takes no notice . Sorry to lower the tone of the conversation but you brought the subject up !
