I don't know, but I can tell you it keeps going up  ! Even so, it looks like it comes way under the quotes I'm getting now. Some dear people here gave me a link [www.ebookers.com] ~ however, it seemed they had London/England as the only originating point/s. I've been going to do the "Contact Us" thing to see if they have U.S. to England and back, rather than just England to U.S. and back.

I guess if all else 'fails,' we can go with Henning's suggestion, eh, Margaret? I'm sure he and Elke won't mind scooting over and sharing their accommodations with you, me, John, Paula, and Megan, when we find everything already filled  . I know he's right about adding to the experience; the problem [as always] is cost, and I'd hate to end up with something further out of range, when we could've secured something for less.

Try the Alkionides.. I stayed there in 2002, and absolutely loved it.. I recommend it in a hearbeat... very reasonably priced (at the time, 45 euros a day) air conditioned, clean, good showers (and large towels!) nicely decorated, lovely courtyard, and only a few streets back from Hydra Harbour.. (no steps!)

I know it is a better feeling to travel with a reservation in advance but my advice is to just go there and rent a private pension at reasonable price. There are plenty of it. It adds to the Hydra experience when you are new.
As I said :D I'd not care about that anymore! We'd simply came to the port and ask/search around for the accomodation.

That's a good idea, Tom.
Thank you for reducing our concerns a bit.

Does the "double room= 55 Euros" means for two (well, it's double room, isn't it?), or that each of us pays 55 Euros. That's 110 Euros then - apartment for three persons is then cheaper - 75 Euros, and I can keep my clothes on extra empty bed :?

Tom,
The cost is usually for the room, not for each person in it. I assume you have had a reply now :)

Yes, and Henning confirmed me it's the room, not the person :D

In Croatia it's usually per person, so actually the contrary. Very strange. I guess they can cheat the poor tourists better in that way :? Be aware when you come to the Adriatic Sea. Last summer I was sure I found cheap three-stars-hotel in top of the season on far-away island; I payed 300 Euros for 7 days with dinner, breakfast and the bus/ferry tickets. The Croatian sea used to be very cheap until last couple of years; the prices remained the same but other countries became cheaper during that period. I found out that Croatian part of Mediterranian is the most expensive now. I could get last-minute Greece or Turkey for that price, with plane, plus the lunch.

Please, no one take this personally, but I'm beginnng to hate each and every one of you with every fibre of my being. When I'm sitting in the rain and/or snow in the month of June, boy, are you going to be jealous of me!

I like the snow, Linda. Today finally started to snow here, it snows from early morning. Only I wish it's 24 of December, not January...

Tom, my very first trip to another country was actually to Rabac on the Istrian peninsular of what was then called Yugoslavia. It was beautiful and only cost £48 - that was however 1966

Linda, surely there won't be snow in Vancouver in June ? Keep your eyes open for a cheap flight to Greece anyway, or if not we are bound to meet in Berlin.

My first trip with the school was also to Rabac in Istria, I think. That was called "the matural trip" (eight grade, last year od the elementary public school). So you were in Croatia :P In 1966. I presume there was hardly electricity back then :? You shall come again :!:

How are we actually going to meet on Hydra?
Do you each other's mobile phone numbers
or is the island so small we can't miss Cohen fans?

That will be no problem!!! First we have to choose a meeting place in the harbour (without any further thinking I would select the Roloi Bar) where we're going to have an info book. Also, when we know the dates of all participants we can simply announce a meeting time at Roloi (let's say
18 / 6 pm) when we decide where to eat that night plus what to do next day.
