pete...you must have a very clever family member who has been able to trace the very derbyshire country road lay by of your ancestral beginings...it makes my family history that includes an american general, a long line of manchester jewish cantors, new york policemen, a family of international renown glass engravers, various cumbrian landowners etc. etc. etc seem quite exotic....plus you disappoint me as i never had you down as from peasant stock....ta ken

Ken....this is from only one side of the family :)
btw ...It's not a lay by...High Needham consists of one farm and about 3 houses. I'm led to believe that the name Needham derives from 'needy hamlet'.

Anyway, I've obviously descended from those who moved in high circles... thus 'High Needham' and nothing to do with illegal substances may I add...before you do :)

Can we take then Pete that your descendants lived in the three houses and the circles they moved in were crop circles on the farm .

I always thought you were descended from the Melton Mowbray Needhams' who cries could be heard through the quiet lanes. I think that is where your first name orginated too.

Need ham does anyone need ham for Pete's sake does anyone need ham.

Unfortunately it wasn't a sucessful business and Melton Mowbray went on to become the epicentre for cheese.

These "Townies" are only jealous Pete because they don't live in a county that has miles of rolling countryside to ramble in like us two

Ha ha. I love your ten commandments Phil.

I don't have time for any other Forum, and facebook just gets a look in about twice a day. It is all very short and informal there, I think all the real intelligent writers are here :)

Okthen, the last subject was regarding names.

My maiden name is Kinsella ( which I am considering returning to soon).
I come from a long line of royalty as the King of Leinster ( i think it was him) had two sons, called Cheavanaigh and Choinseallaigh. (Kavanagh and Kinsella :) ) So feel free to call me Your Highness or Princess anytime.

My husband... ex i must stress....on the other hand, came from a long line of cowards.

His family name was Lynam, a very Irish name, but when the black and tans came here on the authority of the English government, some Lynams added a H to the name... hence Lynham... to make it sound more english. There are very few Lynhams in Ireland.

so there ya go!!
Bet you are sorry now , you asked me to participate in every subject .

Have a great weekend folks!!!

Phil you are funny, but I am devastated that you forgot my stick of rock.

Paula you are telling porkies again!

Still on the signs theme, I took this in my neighbourhood this morning (the blobs are rain drops on the lens). A woman stopped her car to ask me if there was something in the bushes. She was obviously trying to figure out why I was kneeling on the ground in the rain, apparently taking a picture of a road sign. I decided not to try to explain. I just told her it was complicated.

I'll not have Ken questioning the pedigree of my heritage.
Today I revisted the ancestral home from the 'other side' of the family. Here's some photos.
Impressed?? I bet you are!
