"If it be Your will."
This song I had on a casette in the mid 80's.
Today I heard it on the "I'm Your Man" soundtrack
sung by Anthony. Marvellous version.
I got the desire to say a few words about it.
It seems a flood of tears could be released
listening to it.
I had a feeling with that simple equipment, just a little carriable recorder
in a small apartment after having separated from the woman
I talk of nowadaýs as still being a close friend, a soul mate.
I had just a few casettes, and maybe this song was part of a program
where a man played Cohen and talked, resonated inbetween of the music.
It is like religion, the kind close to, one with life.
The religion Ziggy Marley sang about here the other day,
"love is my religion".
Moving into deeper layers as it moves on, like other songs of LC.

'm thinking of doing a heavy metal cover version of this song. Only, it would be good and not at all as terrible as the idea sounds.
Now you've got the gist of what my lettuce meant.

It's one of my favorite LC songs and yes, it can make the tears flow.

Anthony's version is pretty interesting. His character pumps a lot into a song...but Cohen's voice...that voice does something to this song. I find so many of his songs are prayers...and the voice just lifts them to much higher. Anthony's version makes If it be Your Will less of a prayer for me.

the words caress your mind but that voice touchs your very soul.........but Cohen's voice...that voice does something to this song.
..saying your words were not empty ,
makes them no less hollow

Somehow this song is on my mind all the time these days. It has everything that LC stands for for me.

Grecian - disagree with you - I think Antony is pomp-rock.
For me, the young Thompson chap was miles ahead of anyone but then he didn't pick it up off the streets.
But that's just an opinion.
The real purpose of this message is to ask Laural - Where is the soul?
And while you're at it, can you tell me - Where is the mind?

Sorry RP, but Thompson's voice goes right through my head. He sounds very monotone and flat (to me anyhow). I agree with Grecian that Antony was incredible but I think Cave was by far best. Out of the whole line-up I could do without Thompson most. Cocker was a close second to Cave.

For me.........the Wainwright, Wasser, et. al version of Hallelujah. Too bad it never made the cd soundtrack.

Thompson's 'Tonight will be Fine' was actually a little better than Cohen's, I reckon.
