From Mrs Edith Stevens.

Dear One in Christ,

I am Mrs Edith Stevens ,from Cote D' Ivoire .I am married to late Mr frank Stevens, who worked as a senior manager with the Ivory Coast refinary for Twenty-Six years before he died in the year 2005,after a brief illness that lasted for only five days.

We were married for Eighteen years with a son (Olah) who later died in a motor accident. Before the untimely death of my husband,we were both born again Christians. Since after his death I decided not to remarry or get a child outside my matrimonial home . When my late husband was alive he deposited the sum of one Million,Eight hundred Thousand United States Dollars (US$1.8m) in a General Trust Account with a prime bank in Abidjan Cote d'Ivoire. Presently, this money is still with the bank.

Recently,Following my ill health, my Doctor told me that I may not last for the next six months due to my cancer problem. The one that disturbs me most is my stroke sickness.Having known my condition I decided to donate this fund to a Christain organization or someone that will utilize this money the way I am going to instruct herein, according to the desire of my late husband before his death.

I want this fund to be used in Christain Activities like,Orphanages, Christain schools, and Churches for propagating the word of God and to endeavor that the house of God is maintained. The Bible made us to understand that "Blessed is the hand that giveth". I took this decision because I don't have any child that will inherit this money and my husband relatives are not Christians and I don't want my husband's efforts to be used by unbelievers. I don't want a situation where this money will be used in an ungodly way. This is why I am taking this decision.

I am not afraid of death hence I know where I am going. I know that I am going to be in the bosom of the Lord. Exodus 14 VS 14 says that "the lord will fight my case and I shall hold my peace". I don't need any telephone communication in this regard because of my health hence the presence of my husband's relatives around me always.I don't want them to know about this development. With God all things are possible.

As soon as I receive your reply I shall give you the contact of the bank in Abidjan. I will also issue you the documents that will prove you the present beneficiary of this fund. I want you and the Church to always pray for me because the lord is my shephard. My happiness is that I lived a life of a worthy Christian. Whoever that Wants to serve the Lord must serve him in spirit and
Truth. Please always be prayerful all through your life.

Contact me on this email address (mailto:anstev66@yahoo.fr ) as any delay in your reply will give me room in sourcing another person for this same purpose.

Please assure me that you will act accordingly as I Stated herein. Hoping to receive your reply.
Remain blessed in the Lord.

Yours in Christ,

Mrs EDITH STEVENS.
There someone goes again... giving Christ a bad name  .

I received the same email. Maybe it's a spam.

It is spam. It's possible that a real person's account was hijacked to do this, or more likely the account was created especially for this task. In any case, us moderators can't do anything about it, so we'll have to wait for Jarkko, as administrator, to do something about that account. As for the private messages sent, there will be nothing anyone can do about that because, as noted previously, those are private and moderators or the adminstrator can't see those.

I am assuming that the same private message has been sent to everyone on the board (I know I received one). The only action you (all forum members reading this) should do is delete the message as soon as you see it. Now we are aware of the problem, there is no need for further reports of it. Thanks to Lizzy for being the first to report this publically though!

Thanks for the info and the deletion of the member with a ruse [which I did with the PM as soon as I copied it for pasting here]. It occurred to me that the fr, instead of being for france, could also be an abbreviation for fraud  .

This is a well-known scam called The Nigerian Scam (since most come from organised criminal elements in Nigeria). It works by enticing you to pay at first small amounts for 'bankers fees' and then (when 'complications' arise) increasingly large 'lawyers fees' to release the money. The punter is ensnared by his greed to throw good money after bad in the belief that having come this far he may as well see it through to the bitter end. One poor sap in the UK handed over more than ten thousand pounds before he woke up to reality.

Yes, true, Hydriot. I've been getting these in my emai box since virtually the beginning of having email. These and others wanting to storing their good money in my bank with due reward  . I think nearly everyone who has email will sooner or later end up getting them. Some TV program did a segment on them the other day, revealing some case histories of people here who have lost mega amounts, too. They showed the footage of busting up a ring of them working out of an internet-cafe styled room. The 'bust' was mayhem. They did some interviews with some of the poor folks who really believed the scams. Some of them had more viable creedence and at least one of them did all the research she could think of to ensure it was legit. I think that one may have been a "Prize! You have WON!!" ruse. The segment made the point that this scam is not to be held against the Nigerian population; that it is still a very small portion of thieves there conducting it, and it also expounded upon the extreme lack of employment opportunities there, and that this is one of the things some, who have tried to obtain their money legally, have finally resorted to. It didn't justify the behaviour, but it brought an element of compassion for the perpetrators. The balance of monies in this world is so skewed, along with the living conditions.
