Tribute to Leonard in Brooklyn

Post by tom.d.stiller »

Again for those who don't read the New York Times:
CELEBRATE BROOKLYN Prospect Park Bandshell. It's bound to be compared to the summer concert series in Central Park, but given the quality of the programming here, and the stately beauty of the park and the bandshell, that's O.K. The series turns 25 this year (older than SummerStage), and opens with Joan Armatrading on June 12. There's also a Hal Willner tribute to Leonard Cohen with Rufus and Martha Wainwright and Kate and Anna McGarrigle; the annual African concert with Salif Keita and Oliver Mtukudzi, and the Derek Trucks Band, among others. (718) 855-7882, Ext. 45, http://www.brooklynx.org
(New York Times May 4, 2003)

The full schedule is not yet published. For more information you might want to check http://www.brooklynx.org/celebrate/schedule.asp

Wish I could be in the area at that time. Saw Joan in concert once, and she was wonderful. Don't know Hal Willner, but Rufus, Martha, Kate, and Anna will NO doubt do Leonard justice. So, did anyone watch the Rob and Laurie made-for-TV movie last night?

I've gone to the site and perused the event. The line-up for this celebration is excellent and well worth anyone in proximity and affordability going to it. They certainly leave it open to interpretation on one who would cause us to rub our eyes in disbelief......

You're so fortunate, Lightning and Kush.

Thanks to Tom for keeping us up to date -- I have posted the info to the LC newsgroup as well. Sure hope to be there and look forward to filing the full report!

One other artist name from following the links -- Steven Bernstein -- jazz - worked with Willner on Kansas City movie and cd.
