Work
The corkscrew tail
of work skewers me,
no wriggling off the hook.
I take my work home,
try to relax,
but it calls me like a siren.
It hangs over my head
like a noose.
I want to shake loose,
can't do it:
the iron hands
of the executioner
hold me close
like a lover.

We've all felt this, I suspect.
That is why it pays to have other passionate interests, like phisical activity! To cleanse us of the mud.
I liked your twist in the last verse, CG.
