I'm off

Post by Byron »

Why should I care if you don't care
For the lack of care that I show?
Would it take a year to produce a tear
That would slew my mascara's flow?
I don't give a damn, I'm not some sad man
Who takes and gives back bugger all
You can shove your trite quips
beneath your fat hips
Go sing to the gap 'tween your lugs
You're only as good as the depth of your troth
Which lacks any credence of worth
This girl's had enough of fast fucks and shoves
When it suited your needs and your time
I'll take the horizon and what lies beyond
A dream's worth a thousand of you
Some say "goodbye," with that tear in the eye
But me? I've some living to do...

Well, Byron... I'm already half an hour past quitting time, still sitting here at work, reading and writing on the Forum... but dern, Byron! Haven't heard from you poetically in awhile and here you come with one that seems nearly bordering on rage. Uh... may I ask about the context of this one's writing? I'll look to see if you've replied by the time I get home.

Thanks. Great to see you... today, I was thinking how much I miss your and Pete's ongoing contributions here.

Well... checked when I got home, and just checked, again... so, I guess I need to wait 'til tomorrow. When I reread your poem, it seemed like a song, one written for country & western.

Tis the voice of a woman what is pissed off with the animal she's got lumbered with. I got the idea from a discussion taking place on BBC Radio 4. Some men are bastards. Some men are devious. Some men let the small head rule the big head. But mostly, most men are sods. So this pome is my contribution to feminist causes throughout the world. And yes, I've worked with bastards, devious cretins, nasty sods, and testosterone-fuelled serial shaggers, who all took a pride in the damage they created. I'm not jealous of them, because I believe they have missed out on at least half of what could have been a rewarding and honest life. They think they win. I know they've lost. I've got no time for them and the radio programme was one that fully vindicated my view on these bastards. Tammy sang, "Stand by your man." And for me, how sad a picture of life it is, that her song evokes.

Thanks, Byron. Your explanation helps, in that I was trying to get a male voice out of it, yet kept coming up female.

This took me back to being male, as though being said in a male voice:
I don't give a damn I'm not some sad man
Who takes and gives back bugger all
... it suggested to me that 'he's a man, but not a sad one because 'he' takes and gives back "bugger all" [which I understood to mean everything that 'he' had to give, he gave, when he gave back.

Do you see where my confusion was coming from?

"But me? I've some living to do" (sic)

And more writing too, if you've a mind for it.

You're a scouser, and folk like you do things like this.

I'm glad you do.

Andrew.

P.S. This is the first time I've written "scouser'. It won't be the last.

Wasn't "scouser" the word [t'was awfully close] that my friend, Ken, used when he said he might promise to send me a t-shirt made from the image on the grocery bag of the corner store on Hydra, but he likely wouldn't do it because he's a "scouser."

So far, I'm very happy with the items that he has sent me and would have a hard time considering him one of them, anyway... but it seems the term has a negative connotation. If so, it doesn't fit him or Byron.

I know that Byron's studied what we would call "women's history" or "women's issues" and is very conscientiously sensitive to all that's gone before and what continues to, so I understand that this poem didn't generate from out of a single, radio program's listening.

Now, Byron... have you framed those certificates and, if so, where in the house have you hung them  ? Good on you! Now, did they tell the truth or did they lie :) ?

Byron's back 8) .

Anger can be the source of so much energy. I love to see people who suddenly realise they don't deserve to be treated badly say, "f*ck you!" and walk away to get on with their lives. Can be men talking to bastard women also.

Two on the back of the downstairs toilet door. Three on the back of the upstairs toilet door. One on the back of the outside toilet door. Six on the ceiling in the vestibule (and we haven't even got a vestibule!!) Two on the cat flap. And the other 28 rolled neatly in a roll of paper hanging on a holder in the en-suite bathroom, next to the bidet. You wanted the truth! It's all in me 'ead. I wonder if I had any visitors today?

Matron! the incontinence pad's slipped again.......!!!

A 'scouser' is always a gentleman, who respects the dignity and worth of his fellow men and women. A paragoon amongst his peerage.

Quite often, a 'scouser' will smile beautifully at you as he picks your pocket and buys you a drink with your own money.

'Scousers' are known for speaking plainly. Calling a spade, a 'f***ing shovel. (No colour implications apply here!!!)

   Somehow, those shades of implication got left out and I was given the term's more general sense.

Thanks for filling me in  .
