Leonard Cohen in Private Eye
Leonard Cohen in Private Eye
There is an amusing photo of Mr Cohen in this week's issue of "Private Eye", the British satirical magazine.

A friend gleefuly dropped this round as a present for me about an hour ago ! Tchoc, I don't have a working scanner, all I can do is a description: There is a spoof headline, "Leonard Cohen 'a Prince Charles Fan' Shock" with a pic of Leonard complete with balloon having him saying, "He's a miserable old bloke who drones on in a monotonous voice..." Bit predictable isn't it? Still, I will try to watch Have I Got News for You (UK satirical TV program) tomorrow to see what they come up with.
I was surprised at first that Charles declared himself an LC fan. But he often surprises with his views, considering he is one step away from heading the Establishment. For example, he publicly refused to attend a state dinner for the Chinese president about 5 years ago in protest about the Chinese oppression in Tibet. As he does come from "the world's most famous dysfunctional family" and he is an introspective man, I guess it's not strange at all that he finds much in Leonard's words. In any case, I imagine his endorsement of Leonard will see a great sell-out of The Best of... in record shops across the land. It won't hurt the book sales over here, either. Great.
Diane
PS Thanks Mel, it is quite amusing I suppose. I think I'll cut it out and stick it on the fridge door .

Diane, I see. So to speak. Thanks.
"Dysfunctional family" is a pleonasm, isn't it? If somebody knows a "functional family", please tell me. I never saw one. This Charles seems to have values very near to the values of baby boomers generation. Friend of nature and Dalaï Lama, not listening to whatever mama tells to do, things like that.
Well. Let see it the show will be less cliché, then.

"Bipolar is a roller-coaster ride without a seat belt. One day you're flying with the fireworks; for the next month you're being scraped off the trolley" I said that.

Hydriot, your signature reminds me of an English exam I did a few years ago. Before the assembled, nervous undergrads put pen to paper, one of the invigilators (an English lecturer) told the rows of worried faces what propinquity meant. It appeared in the third optional question. So I did that one

Well, you could well be right, there, Tchoc. And as society is the family of the family, I guess we're all a very long way from being functional."Dysfunctional family" is a pleonasm, isn't it?
Hmm, yes Hydriot, nothing but contempt shown by the sometimes-very-funny Paul Merton and Ian Hislop for both Prince Charles and Leonard. Come on here Charles, we understand .
Byron, your signature reminds me that whilst there most certainly is magic in the web, Desdemona's handkerchief didn't half cause a lot of trouble...Hydriot, your signature reminds me...
Enjoy the weekend,
Diane

Ah, oh what a tangled handkerchief we weave...
Best Irish linen of course, 'monogrammied,' washed at #3 @ 60degrees, quick iron, folded neatly, top drawer, use once. Almost always handed down through the female line of the ancestral tree.

I like this one from your link of Private eyes, Byron
I guess his divorce will not have him completely skinned, though.

When they open the machine, they open the machine, and rumours and publicity as well are all over the media.
Well, Leonard Cohan always had a I-love-him-I-hate-him image, so,
somebody had to do the job. Better to have it done in an humoristic show & mag. Anyway "serious" critics broke their theeth on this bone for a long time, now, I guess they prefer more tender and younger flesh.

lc has had more mentions in the mainsteam media in the last week than in years.
It bodes well for his pension fund. And the best of luck to him.
He has family, and a man reaches an age when he contemplates his family over and above himself. I could understand that his family are much in his thoughts.
If he feels capable of doing a tour, no matter how short, he'll be amongst those who love him and respect him. I just hope that the 'celebs' of the moment don't deprive us of too many seats.
