I have noticed how very often you mention your inability to offer criticism of poems here.

I don't think you need to keep repeating this disclaimer every time you do offer some comment. Apart from anything else, it is rather irritating.

Go ahead, say what you want, however deeply analytical or however "light", what does it matter?

I don't know if you recall the Hallmark Lady- well, she misled beginners by her writing, but this problem does not arise with any critic who generously takes the time and trouble to respond to posts.

"no less than the trees and the stars, you have a right to be here", (Desiderata, shoot me!).

Ah so. The Hallmark Lady was before my time, although I have heard mention of the name. Likely behind my back with many accompanying snickers ... write a poem, Mickey and I'll comment.

Linda.

PS: I kind of just glanced over the quote you left - and now yes, the Desiderata. I remember that. You're right of course, anyone who quotes that stinker should be shot.

This is not a one-time thing, Linda :P ~ it's a behaviour-change suggestion :P . So, getting your fingers wet with someone else will work just as well as waiting for Mickey to write a poem.....or you could always backtrack and pull up one he's already written, or anyone else for that matter :D .

I'm glad you found your thread :D .

I'm glad I found my thread also. If it hadn't been mentioned, I probably would not have. I spend little time around here these days (despite what might look like a lot of time). I see it has today's date. Another 10 minutes and I would have been gone.

A behaviour change? How does a leopard change its spots? As a person of some sensitivity, I empathize with the writers of all poetry and would have a hard time knocking the shit out of a strangers' poem. But, as my behaviour is so damn irritating, I think it only fair that I practise on someone I know. You know? Get the feel for it.

Hmm. As this is 'poetry' I suppose I'm bound to the crit of a 'poem', not a post or even a crit. I'll have to drag one out, I guess unless Mickey is furiously typing away, which I rather doubt. Mickey would not be a fair 'practice' anyway. No one ever said that I had to be tyrannical about it. To say "I like it" without a disclaimer is easy enough.

I'll look.

Just a couple of comments before I have to go:

1. I realise it's not Monday, but it's starting to feel as though it may as well be.

2. re: my 'disclaimer', I add that as, if I were the poet, and someone made comment on my poem, I would want to know what worked or what didn't. Therefore, lacking the bona fides, I preface my comments with said disclaimer.

3. Michael, you don't really think that I could pass by a post like that from you to me? Do you??? Hell, you should've pmd me, I would've been here in a second.

Gotta go,
Linda.

Sorry, but I believe this thread is as necessary as a Hallmark poem.

What's wrong with a disclaimer? Even with a recurring one? Other things seem to repeat themselves as well. Like references to "The Hallmark Lady", who had at least the same right to be here as those who drove her away.

Well, "tell the people that you saw me passing thru"

What a pity you are only passing thru Tom, I miss you :(

Thank you, Cia.

I'll try to be "passing thru" more often...

With further reference to the already overly-referenced 'disclaimer' the recurring aspect is a result of the fact that I don't know each and every poster. I don't know who has been 'in poetry'. I don't know if they 'expect' a more analytical crit. Therefore, I treat most as though I'm meeting them here for the first time (as a matter of fact, I usually am).
