Review of Essential...Mail on Sunday 8/12/02

Well, not quite a review but a collection of comments about all the 'best of' albums currently available;

"After Bob Dylan, Columbia's Essential series reaches his closest rival as rock's greatest lyricist. The Essential Leonard Cohen (*****) is an immaculate collection of 31 songs.
Play it right through and see how the bleakest songwriter of the Sixties ended up as the funniest and wisest of the Nineties"

I'm just annoyed that they didn't bother printing a full review when it first came out. This newspaper is usually very aware and supportive of Leonard's ventures. This sounds like an after thought.

At least they got there in the end, Pete. And that's an interesting progression they have pointed out. I'm glad that someone out there has finally spotted that Leonard has a sense of humour.
