Awesome picture! I love it!

You have made an extremely realistic classical guitar (very nice instrument!), but your "gentleman" ( ;-) ) is seated in the flamenco position, not the classical guitar position. It would be very uncommon to see a professional classical guitarist sitting and holding the guitar like that in a concert, and not just because of tradition: the classical guitar position is actually much more ergonomic -- there is less stress on the body (compared to the crossed-legged flamenco position), and it puts the guitar in the optimal position for comfort and ease of playing classical guitar music (at least, for most classical guitarists -- as with everything else, there will undoubtedly be a few exceptions!).

Cheers, and Happy Boxing Day!

Edit to add photo of classical guitar seated position, in case anyone reading this may not be familiar with it (noting that one can also use a guitar support to achieve the proper guitar position, instead of a footstool).

your message was so interesting, and after investigating the matter must bow to your supreme knowledge. therefore, and as there is no audio, let us pretend the "gentleman" is playing flamenco. after all, he not only possessed a spanish guitar but also admired a spanish poet so much that he wanted to name one of his children after him - and his girlfriend allowed it.

As if! I've noticed that these types of before-and-after ads (which seem to be ubiquitous on the interweb these days) are becoming more ridiculously exaggerated as of late. (Cool 80's jacket she's wearing, though! I think I had one simliar to that...). Hard to imagine anyone actually believing such claims to be realistic, but then again, one can never underestimate human stupidity.

can't argue with that, there's so much of it about. like jesus said to his followers: "i am the shepherd, and you are all just sheep!"

Fabulous drawing(s?) of Leonard and Marilyn. Is it just one pic, done in colour (love the colours!) and then digitally altered to monochrome, or...?

that is a lovely message to receive - thank you!

it is the same pic.
upon completion i thought the colours (using simple coloured pencils) were more gaudy than intended, so used the 'Adjustments' option in 'Paint.NET' to make it monochromic. after further consideration i decided to publish the original and brace myself for any criticism. it is a relief know that my expectation of disapproval was unfounded. i should add that it doesn't bother me too much if people do not like what i post, all comments are welcome - but i do have a soft spot for black and white pencil sketches.

you seem to have a natural talent for mixing glorious colours in your pictures. had i possessed such a gift i would probably use monochrome less.

Geoffrey & Lisa, wishing you both a happy 2025! I may not post that much here, but I do enjoy reading what you guys draw and write. In a few hours we will anticipate the new year watching Live in London, and if we are still awake, follow it up with Isle of Wight. In short, tonight will be fine!

happy new year to you too, and also lisa - and everyone else moving around in the background. i know people are there by the flattering amounts of 'hits' this thread seems to enjoy. thank you for taking the time to send in this positive message.

i do not know which medium you use to watch these programmes, but it sounds like you have planned an enjoyable evening. some of my friends watch television or something called 'netflix', but i have no access to either.

let's hope 2025 turns out better than the year just gone. enough of wars, migrants drowning in small boats - and plane crashes!

Hi Geoffrey and Lisa,

I would like to add my appreciation of the art work that you both post here, also the obviously informed, intelligent banter. Like its4inthemorning, I do check out the LC Forum frequently, in my case almost daily. I rarely smudge the air with a contribution, but I do enjoy what is published. I don't know if the moderators edit out much, but the quality of what I feast my eyes on is excellent.

Geoffrey, I doubt that the recently crowned King of England would appreciate replacing C with K in his name.

Regarding the language we use, my favourite podcast is by Roly Sussex, an Australian linguist. He is the Emeritus Professor of Applied Language Studies at the School of Languages and Comparative Cultural Studies of the University of Queensland in Brisbane, Queensland. = A Word In Your Ear
He frequently comments that English is a real mongrel of a language in regard to the sources of words, and thus their weird spellings and pronunciations.

There is also a YouTube channel that I frequently look at called RobWords which presents a peculiar feature of English in each episode, = https://www.youtube.com/RobWords.

I can thoroughly recommend both programmes. Have a listen/look if you have time to be inquisitive or even curious some day.

Best wishes for 2025 to all your observers, whether they are visible or not.

Alan

this is so kind of you, although without lisa's involvement i doubt there would be very much intelligence.

>I don't know if the moderators edit out much, but the quality of what I feast my eyes on is excellent.

apart from the occasional obvious spam, the moderators do not delete or edit anything here. there was a problem a while ago with someone who greatly reduced the 'quality' of this column by continually posting long, meaningless lists. it was sad to see a forum built upon the work of leonard cohen sink so low. thankfully, that is now a closed episode.

>I doubt that the recently crowned King of England would appreciate replacing C with K in his name.

there will always be people who don't appreciate things. for example, i didn't appreciate the way diana was treated, but that was a long time ago.

my goodness, i am impressed - and thank you for the links. i will investigate.

one book concerning language, especially how words can cure and free a person from their personal hell, is the autobiographical novel 'les mots pour le dire' - written masterfully by marie cardinal. it came out some years ago while i was delving into psychology. i read the norwegian version ('gjennom ordene'), but in english it is called 'the words to say it'.

>Best wishes for 2025 to all your observers, whether they are visible or not.

from me too. one can wonder why some people are reluctant to show themselves, but it is probably because they feel more comfortable living quietly and anonymously - and that is fine. as lisa recently wrote: "the world would be a pretty dull place if everyone was the same!"

thank you for writing, alan - and do pop in again :)
