I knew it was coming...and couldn't sleep tonight...so I got up heard the news. Expected, but still overwhelmingly sad. I feel joined with all here on this forum. I needed to write something. This is what came through my tears. Happy trails...and thank you for your life, Leonard Cohen. I love you. My love to the family, friends, and all who found their spirits soar on his words. Amen

I hope you knew
true friend to my soul
that you took us deeper

the dark cloak of those waters
tread in apparent calm
no longer mask the chaos
you dismantled with your words

for we caught your courage
to dive to the depths
and savor the dark
of love's true heart

bright the purging light
deep the gratitude
sharp the humbling pain

and we burned before the burn,
with you!
dear Leonard
through the beckoning cracks

saved somehow
by our endless tears
in the stunning light of your offerings...
sweet gifts of your open heart

My sincere condolences to the family, friends and fellow fans of Leonard Cohen. My heart is broken. I have found in his words the complete articulation of all the emotions of my life. From the unrequited love of my teenage years to the joy and despair that is part of everyone's adult life. Thank you for the poetry, for your tireless pursuit of perfection, for the inspired and blessed songs you have left to us. Rest in peace, dear Leonard.

It was with great sadness I learned of the death of Leonard Cohen. My first encounter with him and his music was back in the late 60's having heard that classic song of his 'Suzanne' - I have been a fan ever since. My sincere condolences to his family and thank you Leonard for all the music, poetry, and writings you have shared - May You Rest In Peace.

What a sad day to hear of Lennie's passing! I started listening to Leonard Cohen's songs in my early teens, not understanding a word of what he was singing. Something powerful in his style attracted me to his unique way of singing. Years later, I became a passionate listener to his songsand I followed his 'parcours' over the years. I attended four of his concerts in different countries, and I also was lucky enough to have spent one evening at a party in the company of Marianne Ihlen in the summer of 1988 in Oslo. The whole evening was devoted to talking about Marianne and her man of the sixties on Hydra, Greece. This man has meant a great deal in my life! RIP Lennie:-(

Lucretia and I carry Leonard Cohen in our hearts. He was there before we met. He was there when we met. We have had the fortune to see him perform on many occasions. We invited him to visit with us and stay with us when he came to our city to perform in the past few years. Alas, it did not happen. When I saw the news, I cried out 'Oh no!' and tears welled as if I had lost a brother. His words endure and live in my brain. They are a large part of the soundtrack of our lives. The voice was the voice of understanding the world he lived in and its loves and hates and all that accompanied those emotions. He embraced spirituality while grasping the worldly and simultaneously fused them together as one entity. He made our world a better place. I won't let him leave me.
