Bringing up the thread with such a wonderful (heh, unimportant) story from Kari Hesthamar's 2005 interview.
This fragment wasn't included in her radio documentary ("If It Be Your Will", 2006, which can be heard in numerous places in the web; personally I suggest this page; click EXTRA to get the documentary transcription).
But the Files feature the transcription of the unedited version: http://www.leonardcohenfiles.com/leonard2006.html
You even drove her from Greece back home to Norway?

Yes in her little Carmen Gia, and she liked to drive fast, and I didn’t like to drive that fast, but anyway, we got there, and, yes we drove from Athens to Oslo. That was a wonderful drive. Although I remember us quarreling a lot. I don’t know whether it was about the driving or not, but I do remember that it was quarrels that arose. But they were healed because we’d stop at some little Italian cafe and have pasta and a bottle of wine or some cheese and bread, and we’ d get over it. But I remember coming in to Oslo, and I remember another time coming into Oslo by train, from Yugoslavia, and my coat was stolen in the train, and I got into Oslo in the middle of a snowstorm without a coat, I remember that. So my memories are very, eh…, unimportant somehow. I mean, they’re unimportant to me, so I can imagine how unimportant they are to you [laughter].
"Carmen Gia" is actually a sports car Volkswagen Karmann Ghia.
Random image (it could be a cabriolet as well, but I guess that's not a good idea for Norway ;-) ):

I think there's a poem in the Book of Longing that refers to:

'...a noble young woman/ who unfastened her jeans/ in the front seat of my jeep...'

(colour + bolding is mine)

I agree with that, Sheila. I'm thinking the jeep probably belonged to the monastery and was for Leonard's [and others' use, as needed]... or maybe, as Roshi's assistant, just for Leonard's use while he was up there.

in case anyone's interested, neal young's autobiography goes into quite a lot of detail about neal's interest in automobiles.

his current passion is for eco-cars : electric and biomass-fuelled.

Leonard interviewed whilst driving around Los Angeles in his car, playing tracks from the forthcoming album.

Finally I have found this! He drives a very nondescript Honda. Would he have it any other way?

Not a car, rather, a different kind of Honda:

I love this forum and hope it’s still active. I miss Leonard more with each passing day, not less. Though his work lives on and continues to speak to the current moment—what could be more pointedly apt than “The Future”?—it’s painful knowing there will never again be “Ten New Songs.” I woke up this morning wondering what kind of car he drove. My husband, who thankfully finds my obsession with Leonard’s words and music amusing, was sure nobody else was interested in the question. You guys proved him wrong (not a common occurrence). Thanks so much for your posts!
