Worst Leonard Cohen song for a wedding?

Post by HelenOE »

I've seen several tweets lately mentioning people using, or wanting to use, Leonard Cohen songs at their weddings. So just for fun I thought I'd ask: which song would you LEAST like to hear used this way?

I nominate Joan of Arc.

Dress reherseal rag.

Some of the guests, even maybe the bride, jumping out of windows would kill the party...

As many people have problems with a sense of humour, Why Don't You Try isn't a good choise.

Also, I wouldn't suggest Please Don't Pass Me By (not only because it's A Disgrace). Although it should be fun to hear "Hey, won't you be naked for me" from anyone besides the groom, the next song would be A Singer Must Die, I'm afraid. Another odd thing is - you know, "may not be tonight... may not be tomorrow" - a kind of belated dubiety. Not to mention "and I sing this for the freaks and the nerds, and the mean colleagues of the groom, and the ugly bridesmaid..."

Personally I'd recitate Minute Prologue from the same album. It shouldn't take much time at least.

Doubt that I'd feel very good if I heard "Is This What You Wanted" played at my wedding, especially if we'd already been living together.

And the worst song out of those that are actually played at weddings must be "I'm Your Man". It's a song of broken promises, people... broken!

(The first dance at our wedding all those years ago was "If It Be Your Will", we never regretted that choice)

I agree, good choice, and I hear you about "I'm Your Man." And coincidentally, it turns up in the batch of tweets I'm just about to go post in that topic.

"Your private life will suddenly explode" is probably not the sentiment you want to be contemplating as you look forward to a honeymoon.

Heh heh.. My thoughts exactly. Especially with the way he sings it-- there would be some guests who would be shocked.

p.s.-- shouldn't this be in the Leonard's Music section?

How about BEST Leonard Cohen song for a wedding. The above comments do have some humour but am going to change the negative to the positive (for me)...and I have a wicked sense of humour...but am thinking enough already...

That's almost the ONLY one that would work for a wedding. Unless, of course, Tacoma Trailer. :P
