The Galerie Lounge TD is honoured to present is honoured to present the sketches and drawings of the great poet, songwriter and singer Leonard Cohen, for the first time ever in Montreal. Leonard Cohen has filled sketchbooks since the outset of his career, tracing shapes and forms and giving life to a poet’s words.

Until 2007, the great artist had never exhibited his drawings. Self-portraits annotated in his own hand, nudes and female portraits, and everyday objects invite the viewer to share an intimate moment with this extraordinary Montreal creative force whose words, timeless melodies and deep, warm voice have seduced audiences the world over for forty years.

Thanks so much for posting this. Being that my birthday is February 22, and I just love Montreal, it's obvious where I will be celebrating it. No better place than in the presence of LC works of art.

I've made my hotel reservations in Old Montreal for this event! Got my best girlfriend in tow and we'll be off for a fun-filled weekend. Is there any other Leonard landmarks I should check out while I'm in his hometown?

In anticipation of your visit to the LC Art Exhibition in Montreal, here is a link to some of his drawings that may be in the exhibition.

Last April, I visited Leonard's Art exhibition at Claremont College, about 50 miles east of Los Angeles, prior to attending his concerts in San Diego and Los Angeles.

I was lucky to be the only one at the exhibition and could take my time to enjoy each individual drawing. To me, Leonard’s art is funny, poignant, erotic and spiritual.

My particular favorite was the one of himself reading poems to Canadian Prime Minister, Pierre Trudeau, who I feel was the greatest PM Canada ever had. The drawing included an excerpt from the “Book of Longing”. At a friend's rooftop gathering, Trudeau asked Leonard to read a poem and when he finished, to read another poem and another. As a transplanted Canadian now living in L.A., I found the drawing of Canada’s two greatest National treasures very moving.

Leonard Cohen's drawings are awesome.

Thank you for posting the link. It's so shocking for me to read that you were the only one at the gallery as I think that wouldn't EVERYBODY flock to see anything by LC???? I don't think that will be the case in Montreal. I sure did enjoy seeing his art on that website and I'm looking forward to what will be exhibited in February, seems like that whole collection may stay together.

I love to see the connections between his music, novels, poetry and art...it all fits so well.

Great idea Roman, to bring this to the top in a timely fashion.
And for those interested, info for LC's Artwork rep in Pasadena, can be found in the "Contact" link at the bottom right.
