A comment: Why Leonard Cohen cannot change his name
A comment: Why Leonard Cohen cannot change his name
There was a clip I saw somewhere in which Leonard Cohen was asked why he did not change his name. His answer was that he thought about changing it to September, the month he was born. So the interviewer asked "Leonard September?" his answer was "No. September Cohen!" Which shows that he will never give up his religion for anything in the world.
For those who want to understand exactly what I mean write on Google "Cohen Chromosome" and you'll slowly understand what I mean.

And why should he give up his Religion?
He is absolutely adorable and beautiful just as God created him

The whole internet is littered with all sorts of social pressure and psychological, missionary crucading on Leonard Cohen and people like him, I find it amazing that he is still an abiding jew. Did you think of changing your name? Have you accepted Jesus? Which church do you pray in? Hope to hear from you again next Christmas.
And it goes on and on and on.

And it goes on and on and on.

Lover, Lover, Lover
Paris – 22-10-1979
I asked my father,
I said, "Father change my name."
The one I'm using now it's covered up
with fear and filth and cowardice and shame.
“I cannot change your name” he said
He said, “it is my human work”
“Your name is mine” he said
Though you may repeat it like a mocking bird.

Yes, this is the answer, eventually. It has an atmosphere of so much screwing of his mind, and this is what he came up with:TineDoes wrote:Lover, Lover, Lover

But Leonard here was modest. If you'll read the articles I attached above it was more like a "Divine" work, don't you think?

Leonard Cohen should never change his name and neither should any other Jewish person. You should be proud of your heritage...period.
I was raised Christian, but I have Jewish linneage, which I'm proud of. I do not deny it, or hide it.

I don't think you can 'change' your religion. When as a child you have been nurtured in any given religion you can only compare another faith to the teachings you have learned. Leonard is a very curious person and that is what makes his work so great as he delves into different philosophies.
He has said that, although he has looked into different religions, he is very happy with his own. I cannot imagine him being so weak that he would change his name. It is a perfect name for him. Although September Cohen does have a ring to it.

If your mother was born jewish then technically you are jewish and cannot rub this out of your system. I mean, you can also practice Hinduism if you want but you cannot disconnect your jewishness in any way. It's like you were born a tiger but want to be a dolphin, you can "act" like a dolphin but you are still a tiger.Rain wrote: I was raised Christian, but I have Jewish linneage, which I'm proud of. Well, actually, it was my fraternal great grandmother, who was Jewish, from Germany, so I don't know if that "counts" or not, since it's my dad's side of the family.
In any event, Mr. Cohen strikes me as someone who is proud of his Jewish roots....it pops up so often in his poetry and songs.
