"The Guests" and French 1987 interview on INA archives

Post by remote1 »

Apologies if these are already on YouTube...

"The Guests" is only a preview and costs 1.50 euros ($2 or £1.30) to download: http://www.ina.fr/video/I07212588/leona ... ts.fr.html
The Thierry Ardisson interview of Leonard Cohen with Dominique Isserman is free to watch: http://www.ina.fr/ardisson/bains-de-min ... ip.fr.html

INA stands for "Institut National de l'Audiovisuel" and is a French TV and radio archives site.

It's a beautiful version of "The Guests" and Leonard looks absolutely gorgeous. Also a treat for fans of Raffi Hakopian’s violin!

Hoping that this is not old news to all of you experts! :D

For those who like Leonard's chuckles, I took a few screenshots of the video... Hope you like them!
Edit: to add that the giggles started when Raffi played a wrong note on his violin...

Yes, thank you very much remote1! The idea to search in INA's website never crossed my mind :D
I'm not a fan of Thierry Ardisson's interviews and I'm not sure that the use of "tu" is appropriate but still the answers of Leonard Cohen and Dominique Isserman were interesting.

I was so frustrated with the short preview of The Guests that I couldn't help buying the entire clip . And I'm not disappointed with it because it's a wonderful version and I like very much Raffi Hakopian's violin!

remote1 - Those are wonderful screen shots - but you've given me a taste for it and now I want more :)

I need help - I've tried to download the video of Leonard and Raffi (you know I love the violin) - and I can't

I can't speak much French.......I seem to get to a certain point and that's it!! Some guidance required please :?

I agree entirely. I was taken aback by the use of "tu" as well; trop familier in my opinion! But Leonard did not seem to mind (perhaps they'd agreed it beforehand??) ;-)

Hi B4real

I had the same problem (well, I assume it's the same, i.e. all you get is a .tix file)... Don't know how Marine handled it; she may have a better way of going about it. I found this in the download confirmation email that they sent me: "To download the DivX Player to play your video, click here: http://www.divx.com/en/products/content/download-player. So in the end I did, even though I did not actually want to install a DivX player on my computer. However it's free and downloads and plays the video in very high quality... I am now trying to find a way of getting this onto my ipod, but I don't think it's going to happen... The file is so heavily copyright protected it is driving me mad! Makes me feel like hacking it and posting it on Youtube (unfortunately I don't know how to hack files, let alone post things on Youtube! )

Finally, to find the file that you bought, you need to go to INA Boutique, then click on Mon INA and then Mes Commandes.

Hope you get there! As Marine said, it's well worth the hassle! 8)

Let me know if you get stuck!

All best wishes

Hi again remote1,

Well I am stuck! I'm so sorry to be such a pain. I'm usually really good with these things but I can't understand the language - makes it difficult - (I think Marine is French).
I've got as far as "INA Boutique" and I can't find "Mon INA" anywhere or "Mes Commandes" :?
Also I didn't even get to a .tix file so I haven't bought any file. I tried to give them my email address and because I couldn't understand what they were saying when it wouldn't go through, nothing eventuated.
So frustrating............I'll just have to let it go. I could probably help you with the conversion of the video - I do it all the time - but not with copyright. I use VLC videolan player (it's actually French) to play all types of different files inc DivX.
Maybe it's just not my day today - my ipod has just frozen for the second time this week and I think it's gone this time! Ah well, a good excuse to get a new one.

well...yes perhaps. A least I hope so because I feel it like a lack of respect from Ardisson, I know it's his style but that's what bothers me! And what is weird is that Leonard Cohen used the "vous"... OK maybe I should stop paying attention to thoses details  !

I had the same problem as you at the beginning and thought that I got ripped off by the INA with a .tix file  ! I downloaded the divx player and it works fine.
I uploaded the .divx file on my dropbox account, here's the link to get it for free! http://dl.dropbox.com/u/315347/Leonard_ ... uests.divx
You still need a divx player to read it and it doesn't work with VLC for me. Besides I didn't manage to convert it in another format, I guess that's because it's well protected :?

Hi again B4real

Such a pity that I can't just email it to you... It wouldn't work as they have some digital tracking thing on the file. B.st.rds!

Did you get past the registration process? If not, click on "S'inscrire" on the homepage, and then enter the required details (the ones with the asterisks). Then if I remember correctly you are directed to a page where you need to enter your credit card details (although this may come at a later stage). After that, go to http://www.ina.fr/video/I07212588/leona ... ts.fr.html and click on the little basket on the top right hand corner of the video. Then click on "Accéder à mon panier". Then I think you click on "Valider mon panier". That's when the .tix file gets downloaded. And then you need that Divx reader to download the actual song and view it!

It sounds like an obstacle course but it's really not that bad! :D

Bonne chance! ;-)

So if I understand when you download the file I sent, it can't work? They must track us with the IP address... it looks like they know how to protect their files at INA  I should have known it wouldn't be so easy to share :(

Oh sorry Marine, I didn't realize that the link on your post was a link to the actual song! I downloaded it and it works!
However, be careful because if someone downloads the song and posts it on Youtube, they will be able to track it back to you thanks to their "tatouage numérique". Depends on whether you want to risk it!
