What an outstanding concert. Leonard was truly in top form after promising that "we will give you everything we`ve got). He was true to his word. I see much has already been written about this fantastic evening. From my perspective, of the 7 shows I have had the privilege of attending, this was on par with any and in many areas was, without doubt, the best. It is possible that my judgement was influenced by the fact that we had front row seats (many thanks Jarkko) but the atmosphere was brilliant.
Every song was delivered superbly and it is hard to try to pick out the best but, for me,the highlights were, probably the best version of "Bird on the Wire" I have heard on this tour, Lover, Lover, Lover (which I had intentionally avoided watching on any previous video clips in the hope he would play it and would sound fresh to me- we were not dissapointed ) and without doubt "The Partisan" - absolutely incredible with Leonard bestriding the stage with his guitar, like a true rock god. This surely was not a man approaching 75 years of age!, with thousands of fans all giving a standing ovation which lasted for several minutes (truly emotional with Leonard visibly touched and looking very happy).
The Madrid audience participated fully with incredible enthusiasm. During the encores about 200 or so came to the front of the stage. Joining in with Leonard´s encouragement, (Paricularly during "So Long Marianne" where he turned the microphone towards the audience) the crowd was jumping. Chelsea Hotel was really appreciated by everyone around us. Although we had hundreds of people now standing in front of our first row seats it actually added to the experience. people were dancing laughing and crying (not only the ladies). The band looked excited with Sharon and the Webb sisters laughing in surprise at the reception. Don´t be ladies it was amazing. We can not wait for Barcelona now. If it is any where near as good as Madrid we are all in for something special. Wow! :D

thank you for your chronicle scott, as a persistant LC concerts' participant, it is good to know your positive evaluation of the concert held in my city ... I really think it was great, longer than normal, with a more smiley LC, and acompannied by a very pro and motivated band

I am very glad to know that we "madrileños", and every other elsewhere's, managed to give LC a nearly perfect atmosphere for his performance. I would like Barcelona to improve it, it is his birthday and he deserves it, but it will be difficult, the standard has gone higher.

thank you all for your videos and reports.

I now wish I could attend the concert and celebrations in Barcelona. Unfortunately, that will be impossible for me. Still, I will be in Bilbao to compensate for that. One more time before it's over..

I'm sorry that the technical quality is not the best possible. :-(

I still have more videos (7 -8) that upload to YouTube in the coming hours. Thanks for the welcome and I'm sorry, again, for my English.

first of all a huge thank you to jarkko and everyone else from the forum for the pre-sale and all the info: because of you i got some of the best tickets in the (overwhelmingly big) venue, and the best thing was i didn't even know how good they were until i got there!

amazing concert! it wasn't the happiest of nights for me due to personal circumstances and a few painful absences who couldn't make it in the end but what a great show nevertheless. the only negative thing was mr. Cohen hinting at how this was probably the last chance we would have to see him on stage in out city, but i guess it was to be expected, unfortunately.

oh and hello elsita! i think me and my mother were sitting by you and your wife! i didn't even know you posted here! it was nice meeting you :D

here are a few songs i taped with my crappy camera, i think they actually turned out pretty good, considering:

The Partisan: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eEK-Ej_2ruw (definitely the highlight for me!)

Famous Blue Raincoat: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UhDO1G3R-e8

and part of First We Take Manhattan: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rRQgG4Tj4tc

Many thanks for all the hard work! Haven't had a chance to watch them yet but downloaded 8 of them directly onto mp3 to listen to on the way to work and back. Very nice!

It seems that many of the Madrid songs have a little twist to them, a little something new. I found in particular that First We Take Manhattan sounded almost oriental, especially when he sings: "the birthmark on my skin". I was wondering what other people thought of the Madrid version. I loved it.

Also, The Gypsy's Wife is perhaps the most beautiful version I've heard. I had to check out the video, though, because it sounded like someone was playing the cello instead of Dino Soldo's usual solo piece. I was completely stunned to see that this particular sound was actually coming from an "instrument of wind". Has this instrument been used in the other concerts before?

Anyway, thanks again Juan Luis Corcobado. Looking forward to hearing the last ones and watching all of them! 8)

I think the band changed their usual playing in Madrid, or maybe they change it all the time, I only have three performances to compare. And yes, when LC sings I tried to leave you he says "at least a hundred thousand times", hahaha, it was a long concert indeed, although we could have stayed the whole night long enjoying his songs :) and their enthusiasm interpreting them.

Thank you Juan Luis, great work, as great as your well deserved devotion to LC.

Really lovely night, one night to remember, for ever ...

Thank you so much Juan Luis for all the wonderful video.

Regarding "I Tried To Leave You" - and regarding big smiles - look at Roscoe after he finishes his solo at 6:57!!! Hell yeah!!!  The improvising from all throughout this song is wonderful! At 6:09 Rafael actually stops and switches the drumstick in his right hand into his left hand - leaving that right hand free to blow someone a lucky kiss I think!  And then goes back to supreme concentration ending with a successful toss and catch. That is when Leonard breaks out into that big, beautiful smile - and Rafael is beaming. Then - a wonderful capture of Leonard's face and expressions at the end (6:55) Juan Luis!!!

Wish I had been there - but this is the next best thing. :D

I can only compare to Athens, but yes, I also thought some of the songs were better versions. And with First we take manhattan, well the public went wild and it must have transferred to leonard and the other people of the band.
Madrid was also the first concert after a few days rest for leonard and the band and you could feel they were there strong and with full enthousiasm.

Unforgettable.

And thanks very much Juan Luis for your work!!!
