I think it should go:
1. Bob Dylan
2. Leonard Cohen
3. Randy Newman
I voted for Randy Newman though because I can't see anyone else voting for him

Re: Haaretz poll: LC nominated for "greatest Jewish Musician"
At least you didn't go for Dylan, that would be something close to heresy on this forum (some people here might think; others, like Ken, obviously wouldn't)... But I appreciate the fact that you support the underdogs. It sounds like something Leonard would like, too.
Update: Yes, I can see that Randy Newman has only got one vote. But now, poor Neil Diamond and some others are still left without any votes at all, and I don't know if there are more fair-minded people around like you, ACF, who just vote for someone out of sympathy...
Update on the result (it does not seem to be the busiest poll ever): Leonard is in the lead right now, the top three being:
Leonard Cohen
31.03% (9)
Bob Dylan
24.13% (7)
Paul Simon
13.79% (4)

Well we seem to have brought Cohen into the lead for now.

We should be fine as long as no one alerts anyone from the Bob Dylan forum - although the people from that website are so incompetent it'd probably make no difference. They took months to put up the lyrics to Together Through Life and have pretty dubious views on which of his albums are the best.

But quite a few of them don't think that Brownsville Girl redeems Knocked Out Loaded! It's possibly his best song.

You must have been looking in all the wrong places.
Robert Hunter's and Dylan's lyrics for Together Through Life were all available for downloading weeks before the album was released.
Also thanks to a Dutch music journalist's preview copy of the album that too was available (illegally of course) for downloading about a month before it's official release.
However I wouldn't let these facts get in the way of your musical prejudices.
As chance would have it both Leonard and Bob started the latest leg for their never-ending-tour on the same date 1st. July.
Up to and including this evening Bob has played 14 dates and Leonard has played 12 shows. 13 of Bob's shows are already up there for downloading while we have only had 3 of Leonard's made available so far.
So I guess Dylan fans aren't as incompetent as you suggest they are.
womanfromaroom you seem to be on every thread on the forum these days dispensing advice to all and sundry (even on our Welsh weekend you have advice for us all, which I'm sure my fellow participants are very grateful for) but I'm afraid this is yet another example of you shooting yourself in the foot. Is there such a thing as leonardcohenforum Tourette Syndrome (LTS)Womanfromaroom wrote:That sounds almost likable, doesn't it?AvidCohenFan wrote:We should be fine as long as no one alerts anyone from the Bob Dylan forum - although the people from that website are so incompetent it'd probably make no difference. I know countless numbers of Dylan fans and in over 40 years I've never heard one of them say a bad word about Leonard, which unfortunately such magnanimity is not generally reciprocated by Cohen fans towards Bob.
This of course doesn't say anything about the artists themselves but it sure does say something about their fans.
So AvidCohenFan if you want the heads up in future on anything in the Dylan world please pm me and I will be more than happy to help.

Re: Haaretz poll: LC nominated for "greatest Jewish Musician"
Ken,
I have withdrawn my post from the "walking weekend"-thread. I may have over-reacted there. Sorry for that, will not happen again.
If you call my posting "leonardcohenforum Tourette Syndrome (LTS)", it is probably as good an expression as any, but would maybe apply to several of us here.
Other than that, why carry the unpleasant exchanges of the "politics" section to every thread of the forum, even to the ones that are really only meant to entertain? I don't really know you (and I doubt whether, the other way round, you have seen through me as thoroughly you may think), which is why I cannot say that I have anything against you. If you think it should be different, I cannot do much about it, and if you find my ways annoying, it is your right to think of me whatever you like. Send me a PM, if you want. Not sure if everyone is interested, though...

The lyrics weren't available on the official Bob Dylan website, though, which is what I was talking about. Nowhere in my post did I say that Bob Dylan fans were incompetent. However I wouldn't let this get in the way of your vigorous insanity.liverpoolken wrote:AvidCohenFan

I have noticed that Neil Sedaka is on the list too- is he aware he's jewish? Probably not Sedaka is Samaritan.
(where's Lou Reed on the list btw? )
Glad to see LC is still leading.

Re: Haaretz poll: LC nominated for "greatest Jewish Musician"
If I may.
I know something about Leonard Cohen's influence on Israel (and on us) in the past 30 years of our struggled and glorified existence.
Leonard Cohen was WITH US during the YOM KIPPOR WAR.
He was with us in the aftermath. Lenoard Cohen was the compass when we were defeated.
He stayed with us on our kibbutzim . . . always there when I was on duty milking the cows at 4 30 AM for 2 years straight.
He was with me when I started medical school. . . he kept my spirit intact.
Leonard Cohen was with us, in our hearts when we grieved our fallen brothers, uncles and cousins, our dear friends and even those who were never born.
He was even there when I decided to leave my beloved country, to settle in the cold vast diaspora.
In every one of us, he stirred within our souls - yearning to find the home, the answers.
Thank you for letting me be here right now.
You, Leonard Cohen - never forsakened us.
