Music You're Listening To
Re: Music You're Listening To
My daughter bought me Beirut's The Flying Club Cup for my birthday. It's really interesting music.

Re: Music You're Listening To

A friend of mine is in a band called Tom McKean & the Emperors, and I've been listening to their debut single a lot (it's on iTunes). They're big fans of Leonard,it seems - there's a lovely piece on their blog about seeing him play at Glastonbury last year - http://tommckeanandtheemperors.blogspot ... ers-1.html
It's great music - fans of Mr Cohen should definitely check them out - dark, brooding, lovely, but with a little humour. They're from the UK, but they just recorded an EP and album in Dallas which are coming out later this year.
I've also been listening to the Low Anthem lately, Tom Waits (always), and Elvis Perkins.
PS. In response to Tom Sakic's post, you can hear the Emperor's single here:

and more stuff on their myspace page here:

some of the best new music in last decade I found thru this Forum 8and this thread). It would be beautiful if everybody would include the link to sample or YouTube clip, so we all can hear it and decide to we want to order/download it immediately;)

My niece, who goes by the name Onyx of Olympia, is in a band called Polka Dot Dot Dot. It's a very small operation, but they've toured North America, and New Zealand and Australia a couple of times. It's folky DIY stuff which I don't listen to that much, but I really think they have some sweet, catchy songs!

And yes this is a shameless plug, but she's my niece so humor me!

I heard this for the first time on Bones last night. I had never heard of him before but spent ages putting bits of lyrics on Google till I finally found out what it was, No Envy No Fear by Joshua Rabin. Beautiful.

Right now Nina Simone's 'Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood'. I have always appreciated the lyrics to that song.

Just been listening to the song "Blanchard" from Hope Sandoval's new album due out in September - it's been a long wait.

Tickets for Hope's gig at the Festival Hall in November go on sale this coming Monday.
And there's a new Mazzy Star album in the pipeline...
