:D ~ You are a gentleman's gentleman, Glyn! Thank you! I'm glad you truly appreciate my seg move. I was watching carefully.

Yes, the allied nature of the victory will no doubt resonate down through the years. Just moments ago, I got a notice of a call-in attempt. It may well be the BBC World Service trying to get through. Or maybe it's the White House. Or Downing Street. I know my victory came quite unexpectedly, yet with its timing, they surely have recognized the profound symbology of it all :D .

You're a true, seg sportsman, Glyn, and my address is enroute forthwith :D ! Thank you!!!

Congrats on your victory, Lizzytysh, and a belated "Happy Independence Day"... That was a great move! (Both in this thread and in the 18th century!) :D

Thanks, Tom! Yes, the strategy worked....took awhile, but good things are worth waiting for, you know :D !

Of course, can't take the 18th-century credit, but will continue to celebrate the good moves of the others.......well, if they really were that good :? .....hmmmm.

Elizabeth. Can we have our tea back please. Oh and bye the way, your stunning performance on such an auspicious day for your wonderful colony, ranks amongst the truly benchmark (not skidmark  ) features of our cross-pond relationship. Can I have your autograph please? Preferably signed on a small denomination note of your currency. :)
Some would say you had beginners luck, but I know you worked long and hard into the night, and secretly at your office desk, to flummex us poor Brits. Well done. Byron 'sends his regards'and a big (((((()))))

Oh dear, and I had intended to invite you to the Party, Byron, so you could partake of the tea, absent my assistance! However, yes, of course, it'll be in the post forthwith. Special Delivery.

Yes, no skidmarks here, though I did hear a bit of screeching several posts ago  .

The small currency is no problem. Signed, sealed, and delivered. The sooner the better, of course, while it still has value, other than as a governmental collector's item  .

Yes, you're right, I did work long and hard. I'm glad you're able to appreciate that grueling reality. My countrymen are standing right proud behind me right now ~ I'm so pleased to be representing them on such a high-fallutin' occasion :D . The timing ~ impeccable!

I'm also glad to see you join the Gentlemen's Club. First Class, Byron! Testimony to why we've still been able to work well across the water all these years. An unexpected, unanticipated hidden benefit for me, personally, has been my increased vocabulary ~ I'm adding flummex to my list :D .

[Such a gentleman. So appreciated. It means so much! Dear Diary ~ I'll never forget this day :D !]

With gratitude on your stunning goodwill ~ par excellence,

Yes, I suppose they are, Paula 8) ~ if they are forthcoming from you, from within that suppose, I'll thank and include you amongst the Gracious Ladies :D [that'll make twice for you  ]. I can barely describe the immense feelings of satisfaction that just continue to come over me in waves. Isn't that lovely that they announced it :D . Never had I dreamed victory to be so sweet :D ! I'm trusting you enjoyed your coffee, as well 8) .

Well, I'll go to the foot of our stairs!!

I read Elizabeth's contibution at the start of this game and it said "COUNT ME OUT".
Well, I took that to mean that she was abstaining from the proceedings so I bided my time.
I had a near perfect strategy to time my contribution according to when South Wimbledon coincided with the finals of the tennis and to then map my route to Mornington Crescent according to the declared stations already given.
But my strategy was not near perfect enough for I did not take into account that Elizabeth had bluffed the 'counting out' and she 'counted in' when my guard slipped.

I am not bitter for I have been hoodwinked and I therefore congratulate Elizabeth in the manner befitting the rules of the game....... "not bad, for a beginner" :)

 ~ Your congrats I treasure perhaps even the most, Pete. You know why. You, of all people, would most likely have known that counting me out could well have included counting me in   ~ as they say in some parts, perhaps both yours and mine, it's only a matter of time :D .

Your perfect strategy may not go awry, should you employ it next time around. Having been the rightful victor this time, I may well sit the next one out and give another a chance. May the best man/woman win 8) !

Dear Elizabeth,
Let me add my congratulations on your victory in the (beautiful?) game of Mornington Crescent. I think you must have been inspired by the lines..
"Well, I've been waiting, I was sure
we'd meet between the trains we're waiting for
I think it's time to board another..." (i.e. verse 7 of "The Stranger Song"
And all of this on the 4th of July!
Well done!
Your next assignment is "Just A Minute", where you have to speak for 60 seconds without hesitation, repetition or deviation on a topic given to you with no prior notice. Yes, it's another B.B.C. Radio programme, which is as addictive as cigarettes, but without the government health warnings.
As aye,
Andrew.
P.S. We have a 4th July in Edinburgh. It's the day between the 3rd and the 5th  .

Dear Andrew ~

Thank you for your heartfelt congratulations :D ! Isn't that just the way it is with success ~ climb to the top of one mountain, and suddenly there stands another before you. No rest for the weary. Not even on a train. "Just A Minute" ~ don't I do that already? Surely they have an honourary winner's decree that can be appropriately bestowed, without my having to contrive something just to earn another 8) !

Of course! How could I have missed the source of my inspiration? Playing in and about my head for so many years, it seems only natural it would one day finally manifest in such stunning fashion. I knew those lines held more for me than met the eye. Here, in Mornington Crescent, it all came to fruition. As you can see, I am still just a bit beside myself with its seamlessness. A dream on high one day, the end of the rainbow the next :D !

You're so right! Isn't the timing just priceless  ?

I wonder if your Edinburgh 4th resembles our 4th. Sounds like they share a few of the same characteristics, but I wouldn't want to say for sure until I do some further checking  . I'll get back with you. We just may have found another tie that binds 8) .

Thank you again, dear fifth member of the Gentlemen's Club.
