Well, okay.....the number 2 limerick was:

Said Clinton to young Ms. Lewinski
We don't want to leave clues like Kozinski;
So clean up this mess
Use the hem of your dress
And wipe that stuff off of your chinski!

I'll probably be banned from the forum

I heard "I've never seen your eyes so wide" as "I've never seen your ass so wide." OK. I still hear it that way. I kinda like it.

From Anthem:
The holy dove
She will be caught again
bought and sold
and bought again
the dove is never free.

I heard them like this the first few times:

The holy dove
She will be CUT again
ART and SOUL
are bought again
the dove is never free.

And, actually, you could probably make a case for your misinterpretation, Mnkyface.

From "A singer must die":

I am so afraid that I listen to you,
your sun glassed protectors they do that to you.
It's their ways to detain, their ways to disgrace,
their knee in your balls and their fist in your face.
Yes and long live the state by whoever it's made,
sir, I didn't see nothing, I was just getting home LAID (instead of "late").

I always thought this was more in rhyme than the original...
(And isn't Cohen a ladies' man...?)

Maarten, you're not the only one. I thought it was
sir, I didn't see nothing, I was just getting laid
for a very long time and like you, I still think it should be. This thread has prompted me to do something which I have been meaning to do for an even longer time, which is to find out what those lines of Dylan's The times they are a-changin that I have never been able to make out actually are. I bought this album in about 1966 but there has always been a part of the 4th verse that I could never make out. The part that goes:

Please get out on your mmmbbnnndderll..
with your candle in your hand

I've just looked for the lyrics online and, wow, no candle at all. I'd always pictured the poor mothers and fathers being sent out into the night.

"Lucille Ball" would be a throwback to the past and the 'innocence' of the 50s. I've never heard it that way myself; though I did hear "I was just getting laid," which sure made sense to me, too.

Okay can't resist sharing this one:
Years ago they published it in the Los Angeles Times feature column on Mondegreens:
When my daughter was eleven they re-issued the Dionne Warwick song "Don't Make Me Over"
She came to me puzzled and asked "What's with this song "Don't Make Me Yodel"?
When I stopped laughing I told her it was the Swiss national anthem...

I listened to The Future after reading your post and found that if I listen to it with a totally open mind (trying to ignore and forget what the lyrics pages say it says) I can hear how you heard "Lucille Ball" there. :-)

Again from The Future

First time I heard it I thought

"Give me back my broken night
my mirrored room, my secret life"

was

Give me back my broken night
my Marlboro (cigarettes), my secret life

or possibly

my mirror ball my secret life (secret disco fan?)
