"That don't make it junk"

I have been fascinated by this song and esp. the phrase "fought against the bottle and had to do it drunk".

I would love to share about what this phrase may mean.

To me LC could have been talking about the beast of addiction and the monumental task of seeking to release oneself from an addiction...whatever the nature of the addiction whether it be obsessive thoughts, negative emotions such as anger or greed, alcoholism etc. while drunk -or disoriented by the addiction.

To become free of one's addictions is I think what LC is getting at and what larger topic could there be? And, I find it interesting that such a large, meaningful topic is found in a song that has a slightly country, bleary eyed and slurred speech tone- wonderful. But that is the heart of the problem, isn't it?

I always had similar thoughts, about it being about trying to transcend the ego (i.e. the sperate sense of self) while living as and through the ego.
