Average age of LC fans? I'm 16 btw

Postby comfortandpain » Sat Mar 02, 2013 8:44 am

Hello, this is my first post here, and I guess this question has probably been asked before.

Last November when I went to his concert in San Jose, all I saw was people over 60.
It's kind of sad to think about it though - the younger generation doesn't really know him..

Anyway, I'm going to see him tomorrow @ oakland again!!! (I'm already freaking out)..

Howard

We are 63 and 68 but always look amazed about the number of (much) younger people attending the concerts. We always have the feeling 'being the oldest attendee'.

So, the perception differs.

Hi Howard,

Your question prompted me to run a poll concerning age, so you should visit it (in Everything Else section) and register your age. ;-)

I hope that in a month's time we will have a reasonable answer to you query, in terms of our Forum members, at least.

Hope you enjoyed the concert too!

Cheers,
Andrew :)

Hi Howard. When I began participating in the online conversation about Leonard I was around your age, but it's been years and I'm 31 now. Imagine- 14 years old and your dear mom presents to you Beautiful Losers as required reading :) And you take off with it like nothing else.

Haha, last night when I was in the Oakland show, the old man sitting next to me said "I'm greatly satisfied to see you here. Young people only know pop and rap..."

Thank you so much for doing this! I just went there and it looks like so far I'm the youngest person here ~_~ Feel so good :)

[I remember someone in the movie I'm Your Man said something like "When I discovered L. Cohen, I felt so privileged and superior to other people"... lol

OMG YOU ARE SO LUCKY OAINOIWFNEIONFIO

My first encounter with L. Cohen happened when I was.. well, about 14. My teacher gave each of us a cd which has his favorite songs. And I'm Your Man was one of them..

I didn't pay much attention to L. Cohen until recently though.. what a pity ^_^

I went to my first Cohen concert when I was 16 I am 60 now. But I first heard him when I was 14 on a sampler LP called "The Rock Machine turns you on". My children were brought up hearing his songs and can recognise a Cohen song at 20 paces!

Like Paula my first time seeing LC was in 1970 at the IOW festival though not deliberately, as a few of us went mainly to see The Who and others and anyway by the time LC came on several thousand people were well out of it but I did manage to watch him. I have posted about all this before on the forum.

I never managed to see him at the RAH that year, I take it that is where you saw him Paula, possibly in Leeds, or was it at the IOW as part of the bigger festival? I see you have other dates you have seen LC on your details, had you forgotten to place those earlier dates with the latest tour dates from 2008, just wondering that's all?

We tend to see a very wide age group these days, in Spain it looked to be from 10 to 65 plus i imagine, in France it tends to be more from 25/30 upwards but that is probably too much of a generalisation as one never gets to see everyone present.
I guess it all started for me sometime around Christmas 1967 and now, goodness me, it's.........2018 and over fifty years later.
No one ever listens to me. I might as well be a Leonard Cohen record.

Hi Vicomte it was the RAH. I saw him on every tour after that first concert. At the RAH a few times, Victoria Apollo and Hammersmith Odeon. I have only got the new tour dates on my footer. Good job they did not have the internet then it would have cost a fortune to follow him.

Howard has mentioned that he is a 16 year old LC aficionado. After reading the responses, perhaps another interesting survey would be, 'How old were you when you discovered LC?'.

Sorry to make more potential work for you Andrew, but I really like the other age survey you started.

Warmest regards,
Mary

I'm 16 too and thought that I was the youngest person at his show in Montreal until I noticed a girl who must've been about 9 there. Made my day a little bit.
