Regina song (1970) any information?

Postby drsing » Sun Aug 29, 2010 6:53 pm

Hi, I only recently came across the song Regina. It was performed in 1970, so the same year and so to see the same band (The Army) as on the Isle of Wight.

Some information is on the wonderful website of 1heckofaguy :

The 1970 video is here:

I tried to figure out the lyrics, it's about the Holston River (TN).
Found this website with an 'improvisation' of the lyrics:

Is it just a one time improvisation, or does anyone have more information about this song :?: :?:

That site lists 'no reason why you should remember me' as only being played in london but in the bird on a wire dvd he plays it at belle vue in manchester.

James,
I will have to check the dvd for this, can't recall it just like this...
The Leonard Cohen Live website lists the following setlist for Manchester, March 20 1972: (tour that Palmer filmed)

Set:
1. So Long, Marianne
2. Bird On The Wire *
3. You Know Who I Am *
4. The Stranger Song - solo
5. Passin' Through
6. Joan Of Arc
7. Hey, That's No Way To Say Goodbye
8. Tonight Will Be Fine
9. Sing Another Song, Boys
10. The Partisan
11. Story Of Isaac
12. Sisters Of Mercy *
13. One Of Us Cannot Be Wrong *
14. Famous Blue Raincoat *
15. Suzanne *
16. Chelsea Hotel [#1] *
17. Seems So Long Ago, Nancy *
18. As Times Goes By

-. I'm The Man Who Wrote Suzanne (improvisation) *

Are you sure you're not mixing "There's no reason...." up with e.g. "Hey That's No Way..." or "Passing through" ? Just a thought...
Let me know if you know for sure. Also, if you find the fragment on the dvd, please post the timecode of the fragment here (the time when "There's No Reason..." is in the film, easier to check for me :-) )

Thanks,
Maarten

pretty sure mentions 'standing on this stage in manchester' while he is building up to singing it, and how people will be seeing the footage in years time... I had had a few beers when I saw it, but still I am fairly confident..

Watched the DVD again, definitely Manchester where he plays it. My blu-ray player doesnt have the time showing so i'm not sure at which exact point, but its about 20/30mins before the end.
