It was fun to have Leonard Cohen Day on CBC Radio 2 yesterday. I doubt that there has ever before been so much LC on one radio station in such a short space of time! We heard many original LC songs over the course of the day, even including some from Popular Problems. We also heard cover versions of a variety of songs, including some commissioned for the CBC's celebration this week. The erudite Tom Allen devoted an entire hour to Hallelujah. Although the focus was usually on music, we also heard poetry and snippets of interviews from previous years. Several anecdotes were told, and throughout the day announcers were regularly offering birthday greetings and praise for Leonard Cohen.
