Leonard 80 years: Fund Raising for our Hydra Bench
Posted: Tue Jul 29, 2014 12:49 pm
Update on September 22:
Hi All,
we are still getting emails from people who have now found our project and want to participate.
Leonard got our Birthday greeting yesterday, with all the names we had at that moment.
All names, including the latecomers, will be printed in the photo book next summer.
I am abroad with my clients and will be back home on Thursday.
We will keep the PayPal and bank accounts open until that,
so if there is any who'd love to participate so just go ahead.
After Thursday we are going to close the accounts.
Right now we have collected 18,700 eur from 343 contributors.
This means that with the extra money we will be able to support two or three
social and cultural projects on the island.
Dear Friends,
We wish to thank all of you who made pledges to the bench project. Your efforts confirmed for us that this is a viable project which is enthusiastically supported by our Forum members and friends. Consequently, we are happy to announce the official start to our fund raising campaign.
We have prepared a project page entitled "Honouring Leonard on his 80th Birthday":
http://www.webheights.net/speakingcohen/hydra80th.html
This webpage fully explains Leonard's connection to Hydra, why that connection is relevant today, and how our bench project honours Leonard and his connection to Hydra. It was primarily prepared to explain the project to those who have not been following the development of the bench project on the Forum or who aren't as avid fans of Leonard as we are. However, the page also sets forth all the terms of the project and fundraising. We would encourage everyone to read through the page and become fully informed.
Below are the details you will need to know to make your contribution to the bench project. Contributions can be made through September 21, 2014. If on that date, we still have not reached our goal of 10,000 EUR, we will continue to accept contributions until the goal is achieved.
We look forward to receiving your donations and to celebrating with you the success of this project and the joy in presenting it to Leonard.

Notes:
1) From outside North America we cannot accept any checks.
2) Credit card owners are asked to use PayPal.
3) To collect the contributions, we are making use of the PayPal and Bank accounts of The Leonard Cohen Event in Dublin (August 2014) to avoid opening new accounts. Both projects are kept totally separate. At the end of our bench project the final financial reports will be checked by a chartered accountant, and the financial statements will be available to contributors who want to see them.
4) To guarantee the success of our project, a recommended minimum contribution is 25 eur ($33.50 usd, $36 can). However, if this is beyond your financial resources, any amounts will be appreciated.
5) With your payment, please provide your name, city, country, and email address. This is important regardless of the method you’ll use.
6) Let us know if you don’t want to show your name in the list of participants; the list will be given to Leonard and printed in the photo book. (Only name and country will be shown, not any amounts)
