Happy to hear that Wybe…about the bench looking natural…the stonework in Greece is so beautiful.
Thanks for all your photos and meetings about the bench while you were in Hydra…and to the others too.

So, just to be clear, are we going ahead with pledges now?

Yes, please email your pledge amounts to Jarkko between now and next Saturday, August 2. We are taking pledges to determine whether we can raise the funds to make this project viable.

I think it is going to be a beautiful bench. I hope that one day Leonard himself will enjoy the view sitting on his and "our" bench. Wouldn't that be nice?
Just a suggestion: is it possible to add a simple handrailing to those stairs. I know that I wouldn't be able to go up or down those stairs without something to keep my balance.

Yes we all probably need a handrail. But I don't think Leonard ever will.

I'm really looking forward to sitting on this beautiful (natural) bench and contrary to other opinions I do not think the costs are too high. The architect has done a good job which has its price - in Greece, too.
I'm absolutely positive that we will be able to raise the necessary amount of money! ulla

I'm in and sent my e-mail.
I trust Jarkko, Wybe and all our friends who dedicated their time to this project.
It's just not their style to make it flashy :)
I'm sure this will be a lovely, simple place to sit down, to enjoy the view and to think of Leonard, music, poetry, love, forum friendships and the other Great Questions of Life.

Very good practical points about the steep steps and a handrail.
Can it be confirmed that the bench can 'easily' be accessed by anyone with mobility problems?
Also adding a handrail shouldn't be too expensive

If I remember well, you dont need the stairs to get to/away from the bench.

This Is true - no steps between the Hydra harbour and our bench, if you take the shortest route, seaside road passing Sunset Restaurant. Our bench will be half way to Restaurant Kodylenias in Kamini.

Update on Monday morning:

Since our pledge announcement on Saturday, we have already received quite a lot of emails from you. Your feedback is very much appreciated! The bench is a great idea, and many of us want to make it happen.

Based on these early pledges we are optimistic that the goal is possible to achieve, but it is still going to take a lot of work, a lot of emailing of Cohen fans and a lot of spreading the word on the Internet.

We hope to get more cost etc. information from Athens today. If everything goes according to our plans, we will start the fund raising later this week. All details will be posted here and also on a separate project page. Meanwhile we would like to hear from those of you who haven’t sent the pledges yet but plan to contribute. This advance information would help us to estimate where we are.
