I like Bono's version!
Not my favorite, but pretty good.
It's so different from the "traditional" covers that it probably requires getting used to.
If you like different styles try Teenage Girls version, kind of punky.
Which is your fav Hallelujah cover?

My favorite by a mile too... Buckley's annoys - can't put my finger on why.Dick wrote:While there are many good versions, I keep coming back to Rufus Wainwright's.
If anyone missed the complications, The movie Shreck has the Cale version in the film, but the Rufus recording is on the soundtrack album.
Take note if anyone has missed it. It has a remarkable purity.

I like Buckley's version as well. I'm not much of a Rufus fan. I thought it was Buckley's version in Shrek. A lot of people enjoy Cale's version, but I've never heard it. I can't imagine how he would do it! Such a 'tender' song. KD Lang does a great version, I think. Her voice is so rich.
Linda.
** "Tender" is probably not the word I was looking for, but I can't imagine a former member of the VU doing the song with its more 'gentle' nuances. Plain bias, I guess.

The words to Hallelujah are exquisite. Buckley’s version gets my vote, too. It’s the only version of an LC song I prefer to Leonard himself singing. Buckley sings it with so much emotion you can feel his heart breaking. Linda, I thought John Cale sang H (there’s only so many times I can concentrate enough to spell H) in Shrek.
Aaah, Ali: It must be wonderful when he sings it ‘just for you’. Lee’s version is pretty damn good, as everyone coming to Bristol will discover.
